Just learned about it a few minutes ago, but my Congressman isn't at work yet when I phoned him. I'll keep you posted.

Here's the text of the bill.

Just one question, are Democrats really that suicidal?

If it hasn't been passed yet, it's inevitable that the draft will be re-instated. That idiot President has stretched the armed forces so thinly that America can no longer respond to threats elsewhere in the world because people in the military are worn out and just about anyone in uniform who has a chance to get OUT of uniform is doing so.

When you couple the fact that the volunteer army is a thing of the past because enlistments are so far down they don't count any longer, with the fact that we have too many 18 to 21 year olds looking for a job doing something else besides flipping hamburgers... it doesn't take a degree in Political Science to realize the return of the Draft is very close... probably after the election in November and definitely before the end of the year.

Mr. RANGEL is a wacko, this is not the first time he has put forth such a bill. He knows it will not pass he only put it forward to make people think about the Iraq war (in the same way that Bush knows that he does not have the support to get a marriage amendment to the constitution but it brings out his base)

The other thing is this would not only hurt the country but hurt the military!! I for one do not want some dirt bag in the army with me who does not want to be here.

Oh and don't think that this is not a spending issue you have just required 150 million people to become government employees for 2 years and then get a lifetime of benefits. than another million would become government employees every year. their is no new tax in the bill.

this is the worst piece of legislation ever created!!

i don't completely understand all the implications of the bill. i think this voluntary military we have is remarkable but i do get a little sick of all the whiners who do nothing but tear this country apart. so in a way i find the idea of some kind of compulsory non military service appealing. when i was in vietnam the way i felt about demonstrators back home was..i felt it was their right to demonstrate, i resented them, but i sure as hell didn't want them drafted to be with me. i'd be afraid that somehow there might be some who instead of ending up in compulsory civilian jobs might end up in the military which would be a big mistake. These young men and women today are highly motivated...if they mess with the system they could destroy morale.

Haha, it is truly super and that i might decide for to work out it here. different businesses are not allowed to cost funds for issues they declare to grant yet can not in any life like way, why could desire to 'psychics' be any diverse? they could desire to could desire to have a disclaimer asserting 'for entertainment purposes' on the least. i might like to work out Derek Acorah and the likes in subject for fake merchandising and exploiting human beings's grief. EDIT @ Mike H: it is diverse, climate forecasters are making evidence based predictions and offering a smart provider, and are easy concerning the blunders margins.

Isn't it a little early to be asking if it's going to be debated today? It's only 0730 on the east coast.

Thank you, bostonianinmo, for thorough clarification of this bill.

UNBELIEVABLE - yet another reason why this war is getting more and more like Viet Nam. Get ready to burn your draft cards. See my question at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=20060617125224AApDJ8n&r=w
