There are many different kind of angels. Some are messengers yes, others are warriors, some are healers, the list goes on. Angels all come together to make (at this point) a complete army for God that praises Him and fights on our behalf: Angels often send word when it is needed, defeat the enemy when required, heal the sick when called upon. You get the idea.

I have had a few deeply spiritual and personal experiences with angels and have documented these experiences on my website:

We as people do not have direct "authority" to command angels but by asking in the right way we can most definitely influence their movements in our lives and the lives of others.

Many do pray to angels when really they are not meant to be prayed to as they are just the messengers or servants or warriors or whatever role they have been created to play. Angels are directed by God and in my understanding as we pray to and praise God, His kingdom (including angels) is mobilized to fulfill our needs and the needs of the many.

Angels are messenger spirits sent by God to minister to the saints, the children of God. The bible says in Hebrews.1:7,14

"And of the angels He says: "Who makes His angels spirits.."

"Are they (angels) not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?"

From the bible we see different kinds of Angels;
1. Messenger angels like the angel Gabriel who the messaged Mary.
2. Warrior angels like the angel Michael who stood against the devil.
3. Worshiping angel. Which i think includes every angel but some are specially specified for that like the Cherubim and Seraphim's that worship day and night before God.

Ultimately only God commands the angels and the devil the fallen angels, but i think God gives us his children the privilege and grace to command the angels especially when it is something in line with the will of God or something God wants done too.

I hope i did well since you said you already know the answer, but i don't want to be too voluminous.

What I find really interesting is that Aquilla, who has her name roughly transliterated into greek in her avatar, would say that "All this 'angels are messengers' is nonsense." The word for angel in the greek is "aggelos (pronounced "angelos")." The greek word for messenger? "Aggelos." It is the SAME greek word.

So, that being said, angels are messengers. Do they do anything else? Yes, but their primary function is what their name implies.

Can we command angels? That is an interesting question. Christians can drive out demons in the name of Christ. I would say that it could be possible in some circumstances. I think we can pray in Jesus' name that God send His angels to protect someone and it will be done, but I don't know that this is exactly the same. In general, I would say no, we cannot, however, I would not say that the occasion could never exist.

All this "angels are messengers" is nonsense. Humans, being so arrogant, have made it so that angels were made for men. This is really beyond belief. Angels are simply non-carbon-based life forms, that's all. If it's not animal, not mechanical, is self aware, then it's an angel. And I really do wish the intellectual mammals would stop always putting themselves at the center of the universe.

I hope it will be interesting as you forsee...

Agree with you that the emails are trash...

Angels were used as messengers of God in the Bible (Old Testament) because the believers (Jews) feel that God would destroy man (who is always sin this way or that) if he were to appear 'in person'. God was so revered and feared by the Jews that they could not even utter his name in private.

And no - you cannot command Angels. This can only happen if you smoke pot and we're not sure if those are truly angels that appear before you.
