Various reasons - one of the main ones is they do not think they are doing anything wrong! Some people do not purposely neglect an animal (ie have a dog not feed it properly, not take it for walks) but because they do not know how to look after the animal properly. Then you have the SICK people who enjoy taking out their problems on a defenceless animals.
I really do think people should have to have a licence to own pets - the RSPCA etc always do homechecks on a prospective owner to reduce the amount of rebound animals but breeders do not have to.

Because they get excited about a new thing and then a family or person loses interest in the pet and I agree it should be rehomed. but they are not that thoughtful as you and me and other people in this world.

now a days when people are abusing themselves humorlessly and sadomasochistically do u really think they care about there pets. it is always, he who has the power abuses it, in case of humen. so if u want to make a difference start from ur home, after all charity begins at home. i want to give u one more information on that, there are many people who really love there pets, not just to show off, but as their companion. but like u know the world is Gray, neither black, nor white. so like i said love ur pet and those who abuse them, call in the helpline for pets, to give those perverts a better test of abuse.

some people do not understand the correct way to look after animals properly
the same can happen with families and children
some people differ on what they regard to be good care or not
some people i believe have a chemical problem in their brains and this is why they believe it is ok to hurt pets and children
some people are just inconceivably strange -in a sick way

For the same reason people get married and abuse their spouses. Some kind of issue. Superiority or control or some other one...mostly just cause they're crazy...and a little pathetic

Some people will abuse anyone or thing that's near them. And a lot of people deny that they're being abusive, even when it's obvious they are.

People who keep pets and abuse them are usually weak people who need to take out there agression on something weaker than themselves. I would personally like to line them up and shoot them because they are totally heartless and deserve no mercy

I think they feel a sense of "power" over injuring an animal (or family member). I hate it when people abuse things smaller than them.

They are stupid and don't think of them as being living, breathing creatures. I'd like to have a law passed that whatever you do to your pet should be done to you. Maybe then they would stop the cruelty.

they abuse them because they like the power they feel when they hurt them, these people are abusive to all gods creatures and need help from a doctor
