Mongrels are the best - they don't tend to have any hereditary problems and they usually live longer. My mongrel Wullie was over 16 when he had to get put to sleep and he never had any problems. Smaller dogs live longer too as there is less pressure on their heart.
Depending on where you live, you should try and get a dog from a re-homing centre, we recently got a Jack Russel from the cat and dog home in Aberdeen and he is the nicest little dog you could ever meet.

Smaller, mixed breed dogs live longest.
Almost any breed of dog has the possibility to live into their teens,
but many pure breeds have hereditary problems
that make it less likely for individuals of the breed.

Large breeds tend to have hip problems, flat-faced breeds have breathing problems, you get the idea.

It's not true that the bigger the dog the shorter the life span. I would go w/ shepards( white or german ), or labs. We had 2 labs that both lived over 15 and so did our shepards. if u want 2 show the dog I sugest german shepards, white shepards can only be shown in a special club.

When I was a child, we had a black labrador male dog. He lived to be about 15 years old. Whatever type of dog you get, if you look after it properly, feed it well, and exercise it, it will live longer.
