He is in the military and in Korea. Our baby is due in November and I thought I would surprise him with the baby in December. Our first Christmas as a family.

Most airlines have restrictions on the age of a child when flying. However as a former airline employee, I do not suggest flying with a child as young as one month. They are still vulnerable to disease for one and two flying takes a toll on their bodies. Many babies will get perferated (ruptured) ear drums and it can make for a long flight for all the passengers. Sometimes you will have a quiet baby the full flight, but the younger they are the harder it is to fly since they can not equilize the pressure in their ears. The effects could be long term on their ears. My brother and his wife adopted a baby in China and his ear drum ruptured during the flight. He cried most of the way to LA and then the entire trip from LA to Atlanta. He's never recovered and now has to have tubes in his ears because he has a constant ear infection. Granted he was 9 months, my point is flying that long with a baby is harder on them than you may realize.

You need to consult your physician. The baby will need to be perfectly healthy and free of any health issues. You should also obtain a letter from the physician stating the baby is healthy and old enough to fly. The first month is a very volitle time in the babies life. I too will have to fly soon after the birth of my baby in less than 4 weeks to take care of things with the father. I have contemplated having him fly to me so that I do not have to worry about taking the baby with me or my health problems in flight. Just remember the first 6 weeks you will be bleeding. Secondly the baby will need to be fed every 2 hours. Breastfeeding on an airplane can be easy, but sometimes tricky.

Its best to wait to fly with your child once they are a few months old and sleeping more through the night. The first month is such a critical time that if its not necessary, dont risk the babies health in order to be together. I know it will be hard to be apart for the first Christmas, but you could end up having a C-Section or the baby or you could have health issues. Planning a trip before you deliver to travel right after would be sensless since you can not predict the outcome of your delivery that soon after. Secondly, making changes to International Flights is costly. Wait until the baby is a few months old, preferably 6 months to a year. It is still difficult to fly alone with a child for that long.

If it's a short flight like 2 hours - 7 hours it should not be a problem. make sure you feed the baby on the take off and on the landing as that's when the ears may get blocked and if the baby is sucking, the ears will not get blocked. Also keep a naisol drops for Infants handy just incase the baby get's uncomfortable on breething the naisol drops will help.

If it's a long distance flight like 12-17 hours then it may not be suitable for a 01 month to go on a flight. Then I think you shoudl wait at least the baby is 3 months.

Anyway get advise from a Doctor before you go.

There are a few different concerns while flying with a newborn. Parents usually ask if flying is okay for their ears. Yes, it is. No problem with their ears. The biggest concern for anyone flying is the likelihood of catching a respiratory illness because of the poor ventilation. I know that I usually end up with the sniffles after a plane-trip. This is worse for young babies because even common cold virus can cause a significant respiratory problem for young lungs. Frequent hand washing is important after moving about the plane. Most colds are caught by touching infective mucous from somebody else, and then rubbing your own eyes or nose. So, keep your hands away from your face. As the plane descends, your child’s ears will start to plug up from the increased air pressure; this can be painful – but is not harmful. Drinking can help open the eustachian tubes to equalize the pressure in the middle ear.

NO not really if you were overseas like in Germany I think that you should just wait like 2 weeks and make sure that you bring alot of stuff for the baby to eat and drink and make sure that the baby is well healthy and everything but I know if you are in the states then possible wait maybe a couple more then 3 and a half weeks because when you travel it could take like 3 or 2 days to get there with stoppong and going and your baby could possibly get sick I have did this before and it was not a good thing we had to take our baby to the hospital and then wait a couple of days that way it could get alot of sleep because they or she/he could get really sleepy on the plane and then how the plane might get like in late or stuff you will have to stay in the airport for a long period of time and stuff so I would wait and see how everyting turns out and you never know it could have been just with my baby so always remember 2 throught 4 weeks is good!

Bye

I suggest wait till 6 months.

Ask your doctor- comments vary from doctor to doctor.

also becuase , my bro cannot travel as his daugther is 3 months old and the doc has advised to travel only after when she is 6 months old.
