I've had to resort to this before, usually because the girl I was with was too tired to go on until I came through her effort alone. Of course, she was fine with this, & often appreciated my willingness to finish the job rather than continue to make her do something which was no longer able to bring her pleasure at that time. Also, some people enjoy masturbating in front of others, & perhaps your boyfriend is one of these. This may be his way of expressing an exhibitionist streak. He might also be worried his protection would fail, & he might get you pregnant. There could be numerous reasons. You could always try turning him on by telling him how much you would prefer he was inside you at that moment, should this situation occur again. Also, if you are with a guy who masturbates himself during sex, you could join in, either by assisting him with your hands & mouth, or you could also masturbate at the same time. Don't feel the least bit insulted, & just enjoy the experience. As long as you are both enjoying yourself, what else matters?

Lots of people feel that various different things are appropriate while having sex. Maybe some people are influenced by pornography or friends. If you both don't mind than there are lots of things that are much "worse" than that. I don't think is is wrong, after all sex is for pleasure, but you could have asked him about it.
