Genesis 1 vs. 26, says "And God said let us make man in our image, after our likeness ........ !! Doesn't this justify that there is more than 1 God, why hasn't religious scholars picked up on this ? This clearly states that there is more than 1 God, yet society has been led to believe, that there is none other but "The Almighty" ! Why is that ?

Your first question is who ultimately benefits from reading the bible? The answer to that question is, the person who reads and understand the bible is the one who is ultimately blessed and benefits from reading it. 2Timothy.3:16-17 tells us why Good gave us his word.

Your next question is that is it not clear that there were more than one god since God said "let US make man in OUR image"? My answer to that is that it does not prove that, what it clearly proves is that God was talking to someone, who are these someones? We know some possibilities would be the Holy Spirit, Jesus and even the angels If you read the bible well, you will know that the angels already existed before man was made and even the devil had rebelled against God.

If you are truly curious about what true bible scholors understand, why don't you do an indepth study of the bible...I go to BSF (Bible Study Fellowship). They are international and have a website that you can check to find out if they have a class near you. They are also nondenominational so they aren't going to push you into a church. It is simply a great study of what is written...not about peoples' opinions...just what is actually written.

I too was caught up in the whole 'in OUR image' phrase for a while...but after studying I came to learn that what was meant by this is that God, the Holy Spirit, and Christ were always together...just because humans didn't find this out for several thousand years doesn't mean that it wasn't true. Also Genesis wasn't written for quite a while...it wasn't like it was written by Adam and Eve themselves.

Like I said, if you are really curious then you should go to a serious class...don't try just reading the bible by yourself and plan to truly understand what is there...there is just too much and different books point to other books within the bible that will clarify things like this issue that you are having.

I love BSF...it is awesome. I have been going for three years now...I will start my fourth year this fall. In that time I have studied Israel and Minor Prophets (King David, Solomon...etc.), The Acts of the Apostles (mostly Paul), and this year we did Genesis (creation to the time when the Isrealites went to Egypt).

The one who ultimately benefits from reading the bible is the reader himself/herself. Ones who depends on others to read it for them dont benifit as much.

As for Gen 1:26, What this refers to is God and His angels. God first created the angels. Then He used them to gather dust to create Adam's body, then God Himself breathed life into Adam.

This doesn't refer to more than one god in any way. The 'us' part is God commanding His servants the angels to perform a duty. And since angels are created in His image also, it would be correct for God to say 'our image'.

Actually, much of society has been misled into thinking there is some sort of 3-in-1 god or a god with three personas. The children of Israel had been listening to God, praying to God, living by God's commandments for a good 2,000 years before the Christians appeared with their different thinking.

As the Shema states in Deut 6:4...
"Sh'ma Yisrael, Yehu'ah Eloheynu, Yehu'ah Echad"
"Hear Israel, the LORD your God, the LORD is one"

There is only One God.

It is just because that the Books which have been revealed on the previous nations, are no more in their authentic forms in this era. All revelated Books except Quran have been changed by their local bodies according to their interests and poor logical consequences... There is not any standard present accepted by all equally that inevitable for humans. Absoluteness of Quran is undoubted that is a universal truth also! And, in that; God is only One and Unseen...

In short:- God is too great to define in words -- He is the One and Only... Not dependent upon anything, not even on His own will... Neither He born nor be borned by anything. Nothing can be examplified of Him in our thinkings, and He is free of all weaknesses!

I don't see the relationship between your lead question and your statement regarding monotheism Vs. Polytheism. However, you have a good point. Theologians have not missed the significance of the language used in describing a council before the creation of the Earth. They simply refuse to deal with it. They conveniently state that it is a mystery and we mortals are not permitted to understand it. As for myself, I agree with you and I don't think that you and I are blasphemers. Jesus Christ himself was called a blasphemer by the ignorant clergy of his day.

the bible has many holes in but the religious people refuse to accept it and blindly follow whatever their clergyman says about the bible. Most who follow religion never question their beliefs; something that they should do.
