My husband set to much weight on top of it and it now makes a loud screeking noise when playing.

unplug it, find a small srewdriver (philips or star) and undo the screws that hold the lid on, carefull not to lose the screws, with the lid off plug the dvd player back in, put a dvd (preferably one that you don't care to much about), into the loading tray as if you were going to watch a dvd. Warning: keep your hands away from any electrical source and visibly see what is going on with the operation...it may be something you can bend (carefully) back in place or it may be a broken piece that you can't fix. again do not touch or bend anything, while it is plugged in...last of all if it looks to intimidating take it to a consumer electronic professional and ask if there is a cost to open it up? and if they give free estimates to repair...good luck

If you are asking how, I have to venture a guess that you don't have the proper tools, training, or knowledge. Bring it to get fixed by a professional before you electrocute yourself or damage the unit even more. Consumer electronics repair is not like changing your motor oil, it can be complex and tedious. With out the proper training it's like asking a gorilla to fix your car.

I doubt the manufacture's warranty would cover it. But it doesn't hurt trying that. Other than that I don't see how you could fix it. Even if you tried it would probably be cheaper to just buy a new one.

What you do, is buy a new one that looks exactly like that one, same make and model and stuff, and do this at Wal-mart (because they suck!) and bring it home, put your old one where that one was, and return it to Wal-mart (because they suck) and tell them it simply didn't work. And then you get your money back and a new one...sound like a plan?
