I am 34, have cancer, gained a bunch of weight after radiation, and I have to walk with a cane because of the pain. I have three kids, and I do use a motorized wheel chair when I shop. People look at me like I am an alien, or some lazy fat @$$ who just sits around and eats bon-bons and thats why I am using the chair. I have even had people make smart comments to me in front of my children. I don't care what people think of me, but it does tend to bother me when people pull this crap in front of my children. Any suggestions short of running them over with my chair???!?!?

lol...I know people can be so rude....but be better than them! Just say something that will put them in their place...."please don't judge, by what you don't know!" or "Don't you think I would rather be walking if I could so I wouldn't have to hear people like you make such rude comments about me in front of my children, thank you and YOU have a wonderful day!"

Boy do I know how you feel about people staring when you use the chair. I was in a really bad car wreck several years back and the injuries were covered up, broken sternum and broken ribs and a lot of seat belt trauma. I had to do some grocery shopping at a local store where people know me and just because they couldn't see anything wrong, they asked stupid questions. My youngest son was a few steps behind me helping by reaching high items. He point blank told one person."Mind Your Own Business", "She just got out of intensive care." You know the isle cleared out as people stepped aside and others volunteered to get anything else I needed. I was so upset by the encounter that I didn't go out shopping for about 6 weeks after that. I think if I was you I'd make up a placard that says "Since you appear to be worried about me, How much are you donating for a college fund for my children?" My prayers are with you.

opps now I feel bad. There was this one person on the bus that got on and had trouble moving the wheelchair. Then the power ran out so she lifted it and shoved the chair in the wheelchair place and sat down. When she got out she pushed it out. Her friend(husband) didn't help her. So I assume she was one of those people scamming the government. I didn't say anything and acted like I didn't see anything unusual, but I still thought it. So I send a mental sorry to this lady, and I hope you get one from these people

I'm assuming that these morons don't know you from a can of paint. Rather than to create a scene, explain to your children that these rude and inconsiderate bullies, have no home training and are frustrated with their own lives. I don't know what type of comments they are making, but a kind response of "God Bless You" should suffice as an answer. To you and your family, may the Lord bless and keep you in his loving care.

I know how you feel. Some people suck. The best thing to do is look at them and be nice. Smile You still have life. I know because at a point of my disease. I had a hemo globin of 7 and lower, and had to use a mobile chair. I had low platlets and would get bloody noses and people would think i was picking my nose. I was pale. People stare. They dont know. They assume, not knowin they were hurting your feelings.
