Sometimes say after you eat a bag of sour treats, your tongue will feel awfully painful the night and then after that night a tastebud or two will start to hurt when you touch it, then you notice there is a tastebud(s) that is white on the tip of your tongue. Can somebody say what is happening here?

You have a sensitive tongue. If you keep abusing it with sour treats, eventually you won't suffer anymore, because the skin will become thicker and used to the pressure of tough gummy candy and citric acid.

It could be that you are biting your tongue at anytime during the day, such as a nervous tick, or while you sleep.

Nothing to worry about in any case.

It's just a little irritated. If you can stand it, it will go away, but...when that happens to mine, it really bugs me and I don't have the patience to wait it out, so I take a fingernail clippers and clip the little bugger off. Painful for a moment, but not as bad as putting up with the taste bud. It heals over within a day.

That happened to me once when I was 10 years old. It became worse and worse, too. I went to the doctor and they told me I had something called "Geographic Tongue." I thought they were joking, but they were serious. The doctor told me it would clear up in a week or two, but mine was apparently a "serious" case. I'm sorry I can't explain in detailed understanding, but I'm telling you what I know.

Don't remember what it's called or what causes it, but Chloraseptic (an OTC spray for sore throats) helps a lot. Just spray it right on the white spot.

My cousin used to put alum (buy it in the spice section of the grocery) on them - apparently that helps too.
