People thought that the end of the world would come before 2000 and people also thought that the end of the world would come on 6/6/06 and it's a day after that!

It was the end of the world for computers. This was due to the fact that computer programs were designed to store only the two digit year and not including the century. So how does this stop civilization? "00" for 2000 and "99" for 1999 would calculate interest rates and start charging people 99 years worth. That is just one example. However, people panicked and with this the job market was really good for those that wanted to get into the computer industry. Programs were fixed and people got good paying jobs. Nothing bad happened outside some minor problems with reports not sorting the dates in the right order.

Some people thought all the computers wouild crash because they could not differentiate the date (19)00 from (20)00.

People who believed this thought society and commerce were going to come to a crashing halt, as all the computers would go down, and we are so reliant on them.

Much ado about nothing.

It came to be known as Y2K (Year 2000)

Yeah, nothing really happened with that Y2K thing. I sat on my balcony, watched across the river at the Cape Coral city lights, and hoped they'd all go dark at midnight, but they didn't.

So I went outside and lit off some pretty cool fireworks.

I work in the IT industry. It was a scam to make companies and programmers rich. We still have reports today that print out the year as "1906" but all the calculations of money, etc. are correct.
