Students should not be allowed to backtalk because it is an extreme display of disrespect for one's teacher or instructor. Especially in education from K-12, respect for a teacher is extremely important in a child's ability and willingness to learn.

So no, students should not be allowed to talk back.

Why should a teacher have to listen to 30 plus kids give them back talk? School is not a democracy, you have no right to even expect that you opinion holds water. If you really have a serious grievance than discuss it with your folks who can be your advocate - either directly to the teacher or through the principle.

Now sit down and shut up or I am writing a detention.

A good teacher will allow his/her class to have an open floor when it comes to discussing things. I was fortunate enough to have teachers who allowed us to voice our opinions in class, but "talking back" to a teacher is disrespectful. They are taking time to fill your head with things you don't even appreciate--the kinds of things that can change your life.

Educators have the most important job in society next to the medical profession. They are seriously underpaid and under appreciated. So if you're a student, you should really respect the position of your teacher and do what he/she says regardless of how you feel about it.

I think all students have the right to express their opinions whether the teacher likes it or not, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I let my daughter express herself and she always talked back to her teachers if she had something to voice her opinion about, especially if it was something that was against her beliefs.

Talking back is looked upon as disrespectful. However encouraging students to think for themself is admirable. Perhaps have them "talkback " in written form and not verbal. That way you'll be improving their writting skills as well!

No. When you are in school, you are there to listen, not to be a smart a.s.s.
