Why not? Reality is often stranger than anything we can even begin to imagine.

For example, before, nobody thought anything could live in the deep ocean floor (no sunlight = no photosynthesis for plants = no plants = no bottom of food chain, not to mention the high pressure creatures will have to endure there).

Somebody went down there and proved them wrong.
