Ok, what's going on here? I treated my three cats with Frontline Friday afternoon last week, here it is Tuesday night and they're still biting at their fleas??? These things are still alive on them and my kitties are irritated. I thought they were supposed to be dead within 48 hours?

by the way, the soap dish thing is working well....better than any spray so far.....I've caught at least 100 fleas in the soap.

FYI....when I bought the Frontline from my vet, they told me not to spray anything else in my house as it would be overwhelming to my cats because I already spray before the Frontline. Anymore would be harmful. I did treat the yard, I vacuum and do the laundry everyday and I gave the kitties flea baths 3 days before the Frontline.

If your cats are outdoor cats, they are picking up a new bunch of fleas every time they go outside.

Frontline and the other topical flea treatments do a great job of killing the fleas that bite them, and preventing them from maturing and laying more eggs, but an outdoor cat has a virtually limitless source of fleas to deal with, considering there are so many other warm-blooded animals out there to act as a breeding ground.

If you have a mix of indoor and outdoor pets, the same thing applies.

If your pets are exclusively indoor pets, then it will take some time for all the fleas to die as they age but are unable to progress through the instar to the adult (egg-laying) forms.

We have an exclusively indoor cat now, but the previous cat was an outdoor pet -- and brought in thousands of those nasty little parasites. Topical treatments helped, but did not stop the infestation. After the outdoor cat passed away, it took a while of treatment to finally rid the house of the remaining fleas, but we've been free of them for five years! Keep up the treatments, and good luck!

i have never had any problems with using Frontline...in fact I actually use the Frontline Plus with better success because of the ticks being repelled.

Have you treated your yard? That's another place they could be picking up new fleas. While Frontline works without the fleas having to even bite your cat, it won't be jump on the cat and bam you are instantly dead. You also need to treat your carpets, your furniture and all the bedding in the house and where ever else your cats lay. You CANNOT rely on just Frontline to treat all the fleas where ever you are. It sounds like you have an infestation. I would recommend Sevin Dust in your yard. My parents raised dogs through my life and my stepmom grooms dogs and they have used this with optium results along with the Frontline.

Also, another person was right about the flea baths. You needed to do them before you applied the Frontline because all you did was wash it off before it had a chance to distribute itself through the oils of the fur. It takes 48 hours to do that. I also recommend using a flea comb and dropping caught fleas in rubbing alcohol. This will help as well.

The same thing happened with my cat when she was on Frontline. After they all finally died she would be ate up again in less than 2 weeks and not able to get another dose until a month had gone by. My vet switched her to Revolution and it works way better. It also helps with her earmites.

Even though you used frontline on them, there still might be fleas in your house. or where ever your cats roam. Basically you have to take everything wash it, and clean everything top to bottom, this will help kill any if there are any places within your home. Also a good thing to do would contact your vet and ask them what might be going on.

Did you apply it correctly? To the skin between their shoulders? I usually apply a couple of drops to the skin at the base of their tail too. I've also had good luck with Revolution.
