Windows needs to be activated over the internet but it gives you a month to do so.

Either you have finished that period without registering or you used a version already registered by someone. Windows connected to microsoft and found that out and hence got stuck and asking you to re-register. For that, you need a new serial number.

My advise, either purchase an original copy or go in for Linux

The only legit choice is to register on the phone or using the internet. Doing it over the internet though takes no time. If you're looking for an illegal way, can't help there.

my best theory is that you may have purchased an illegal copy or a bootleged copy. the system will shut down if there is a problem which is probably why you can't log on. my best advice is to go to staples and buy a diffrent version. if the version has an error or does not work, you could be putting your computer at risk too for a worm or pest. never buy a bootleged or pirated version of anything.EVER! YOU COULD UNLEASH SOME POTENTIALLY HARMFUL EMAIL OR VIRUS THAT WILL SPREAD TO OTHERS TOO........

hmmm, never seen the phone number not work before, why can't you log on to the internet. and if it won't let you even start up, to where you have the 30 days, I would think you are using an illegal key code

reformat the entire hard drive and then go and buy a legitimate copy of Windows and try again
