Depends on what you want the dog for. Obviously if you want a guard dog don't get a Chihuahua. And Beagles like to howl so that might get annoying. Labs are very friendly and can grow quite big. If you get a German Shepherd be careful because they are prone to hip dysplasia (spelling?) and other health problems due to inbreeding.
If you don't plan on showing/breeding the dog, I'd suggest getting a mutt from a shelter. I've grown up with dogs, pure bread and mutts, and mutts overall seem to be healthier and a little smarter. Just look for a dog who's predominately the breed you want. When I was looking for my guard dog I did a LOT of research and actually ended up adopting something I'd never have considered prior to my research: a Rottweiler/German Shepherd mix. I knew I wanted a Shepherd (they are so pretty!) but because of their health problems I didn't want a pure bread. Rottweilers and Shepherds both make great guard dogs so when I saw my dog at the pound the decision was an easy one.

A better trained one. !
Learn about the other breeds you mentioned and choose the one which seems to fit your life style the best. Personally, I don't believe you can beat a German Shepard Dog for any purpose but be sure you pay the price for a really well bred pup. Golden Retrievers are great dogs too. Any breed should be well trained, especially to respond to your voice commands. If you don't have time to spend with your dog, to know where he is at all times, to keep him with you when he is outside, to go through obedience training with him...then consider another kind of pet. Cats are fun.!

It depends on whether you want another large dog or a small one. If you don't want another golden retriever, then go with the German Shepard. I have owned a Beagle and loved him for many years. I now have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, a male and a female. They are much smaller dogs, but the best breed I have ever worked with. They are companion dogs and love to give and receive love.

German Shepherds are really loyal and loving dogs. We have owned German's as far back as I can remember. Chihuahua's are good dogs, but very energetic. Mine will yap at anyone who even stands up and walks to the kitchen. But still a very good lap dog. I have no experience with labs or beagles though. Sorry I cant help you there.

You should probably get a pomeranian. They are more loyal than that wimpy Golden Retriever of yours, that hopped to someone else. Poms are loyal and smart. They make good guard dogs.
