My friend and i are both trying to lose weight. I'm trying to lose 25 pounds and shes trying to lose 50. Now shes doing it the wrong way ,she's only eating 1 meal a day or some times 2 and she exercises. I've tried to tell her not to go about it that way but she won't listen. can she really lose weight that way?

It is much better to eat several small meals in the day, say 4-5, rather than 1-3 large meals. It keeps your metabolism up at a higher rate, thus you burn more energy.

For your basic caloric requirements, go to this website:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/calrmr.htm

You want to do cardio about 3-5 times a week, 55-75% of your MHR (220-your age). Mix it up, swimming, jogging, cycling. Take a "spinning" class, they burn a ton of calories and are great for t he legs. Your local YMCA or Ballys or 24hours fitness, should have them. Watch what you eat, high energy food, fruit and vegies, complex carbs. Believe it or not, but drinking lots of water can help you lose body fat. But you still HAVE to exercise, or find activities that require you to burn more than you consume

To see how many you use in a day, few days or week, including activities, etc

http://www.fitday.com

Exercise, abduction/adduction works outter and inner thighs respectively (abduction means leg away, adduction means leg towards) do squats with your legs together, heel kicks to work your glutes.

I would be glad to give you more advice if you want.

she might lose some weight but only for a little while then it will come back. this is probably the most unhealthy way to do lose weight. its good that u r concerned so tell her that this "diet" wont do much for her because she wont be able to excersize that much and will be tired because of the little nutrition her body is getting. it is best if she portion size but have way more than just 1 or 2 meals a day.

It's better for her to eat smaller meals a day. Not once a day. She will end up making herself ill exspecially as the weather warms up. Try drinking pure apple cider, it helps to flush the system and guides you in your weight loss. A tablespoon a day, even though it doesn't taste very good. I had a friend who ate 5 small meals a day, walked alot and did the apple cider gig, who lost 15lbs in a month. It's better to be safe than sorry, and you are right in worrying about her. Make sure she has the 5 food groups, and if she still doesn't want to eat the meals...have her at least eat fruit during the day. Good Luck!

Yes she can loose weight this way...but it is not the safe way of loosing weight, and she will probably gain all the weight back (and maybe more) when she stops her "dieting"

You are smart to be concerned. Watch and make sure that she does not stop eating or that her eating restrictions do not become extensive. If this happens she could be developing anorexia. If you are really concerned..talk with her mother/father if she wont listen to you.

yes you can, but your metobolisim will slow down,so if she decides to start eating normally again, she will gain weight again and it will be hard to lose. the best way to lose the weight and keep it off? eat 6 small meals a day instead of 3 large ones, ( eating more often increases your metabolism) and exersice for at LEAST 20 min a day. it will help you lose the weight and keep it off for good. cut out junk food and soda and sugar drinks and drink a lot of water. eat a lot of veggys and fruits for snacks and they are also a good source of energy.

yes she can lose weight that way along with making her at risk for some serious health problems along the way-she might get dehydrated ,dizzy ,fainting etc. if you type diets in a search engine thousands of things will pop up my suggestion exercise daily drink plenty of water eat in moderation cut back on sweets and just enjoy life yes we all want to look a certain way but what is the sense of losing weight if your not happy with yourself always keep that in mind-good luck

well, dieting depends on the style of the person. Maybe she is trying to lose twice as fast to make up for u losing 25 and her losing 50

tell her, what happens is she is most likely going to gain more weight as when you only eat once a day your body stores it (as fat) because your body needs the three meals at different times what she is actually doing is making her body scared. in a sense, its thinking of not enough food must store incase no more food is given.

dear you are thinking of the less food you eat the better, NOT GOOD you should eat three meals a day smaller and and more healther, NOT no food at all.

I think it's pretty unsafe for your friend to go about dieting in this manner. It may lead to an awful eating disorder. Perhaps you should speak to her or suggest another friend to give her some advice. If it doesn't hurt her she may gain all the weight back plus some.
