every time she eats and now she has got her babies doing it its like she is gathering things around it but there is nothing there just the floor..

She's covering it over so it'll be there later.... at least in her mind. I had a cat do it too and she had always been an indoor cat from the time she was a small kitten. It's like covering up the poop in the litter box to cut down on the scent. She's doing the same thing essentially to her food source to make certain no one else finds it.

Several different theories about that:

"Covering" their prey so that no other animals can get it

Not happy with their food

Marking territory to warn away other predators/scavengers

Wow, I thought my cat was nuts 'cause she does this too.Glad to know that I am not alone ! It's annoying but not harmful, if she is making to much of it I just call her name and she stops.
