Oh boy...here we go again. I met my current boyfriend when he was separated from his wife. She was alreadywith his friend and it took 3 years for the divorce to be final. They just didn't live in same town and were too busy. This same question came up earlier and I had the only different opinion. I say separated is the time between the break-up and the divorce. I have been with my bf for almost 9 years now. When we met...he told me he was separated and at first...I was weary, but I told him..that I had 2 kids and he was not lying to me......

Sometimes when someone says they are seperated they mean that they are willing to date but not commit yet, be careful if she is saying she's seperated it means she's fragile and can easily be hurt

it does sound like she is single separated means she was with someone and now is not but if you want to know ask her or you could do the stupid teenager thing and ask her friends.
