The root cause? Poor parenting skills. Letting kids choose to eat bad food, or even choosing it for them. Not instilling good eating habits and good food choices from day one into the child. This is aided by a plethora of advertising aimed at children (sugary, fried and fast food) with toy and movie tie-ins.
The results? A lifetime of being overweight, unhealthy and discriminated against.

I've done research on child/teenage obesity. The #1 cause of obesity is overeating. There are many causes of over eating also. Like, if your child is having social emotional problems, they might eat more to take away pressure. If a child/teen eats and doesn't excercise afterwards, that will cause obesity also. Soda is a major cause. Did you know that diet soda causes 71% more chances of obesity than regular brand sodas? Thats because the chemicals make you want to eat more. I hope I've answered you question(s).

Kids don't play outside anymore! I think that's one of the biggest problems. We plop them in front of the tv, computer, or videogames. I also think soda is a huge problem. Foods aren't great either, but kids drink soooo much soda and there are so many calories and so much sugar in it. I think parents are just too busy and feeding their kids junk instead of something more healthy. People automatically assume healthy food takes too long to prepare.

I think that the people that said soda are the closest. In the most broad sense, the answer is probably sugar (soda and candy), refined carbs (white bread, pasta), saturated fat (whole milk, fried foods), and trans fat (a lot of baked goods).

I would say that among kids, sugar is public enemy number one.

Parents over feeding them, letting them eat what they want, telling them that they need to eat everything on their plate because there are starving children in the world.
Effects: loneliness, being made fun of, serious health conditions, etc.

Parents don't make them eat healthy and let them get fast food al the time. Effects... high cholesterol, emotional pain (get made fun of), high risk for other diseases, eventual death.

the first problem would have to be the parents as children should not be in control of what they eat, its the parents.
