Eh... I'm lukewarm about books as gifts. Especially one that could be taken as a hint such as that... But it's the thought that counts. Honestly, he'd probably rather learn that kinda stuff firsthand through you. If you're looking to give him something, I promise he'd be much more enthusiastic about receiving Omaha Steaks or something.

That is a great book for understanding and communicating love to each other. Rather then having the book handed to me with the words "hear read this", I would prefer to read it with her. If the relationship is getting serious, you (or she) might ask "do you mind if we read this together, I think it could be good for us."

I wouldn't "mind" receiving such book, but whether I "appreciate" is a whole other question. Appreciation only happens after reading it.
