I didn't realize until today just how smart Meldrick Taylor was by trying to score points rather than going for a knockout in his classic bout against Julio Cesar Chavez. I'm thinking Chavez would have gotten him out of there much more quickly if Taylor had tried for the knockout.

Isn't it funny how this fight has been hashed over on Y! answers as of late... yeah, Taylor was smart in trying to outbox JCC. Had Taylor attempted to slug it out with Chavez, the day would have been easier on Richard Steele... count to ten, raise Julio's hand, change clothes, pick up paycheck, done deal.
It was an unbelievable fight wasn't it!!!

Taylor fought brilliantly that night, he just ran out of gas. I don't think Steele should have stopped it but it is possible that Chavez could have finished him with one more solid combo.
