I have a chi too, she is the best pet I've ever had! If anyone acts like they aren't nuts about her too, I feel pity for them. ;o) They've never experienced the bond that a chihuahua can have for their human pets! They probably met a chi once that was territorial of their homes/humans, or they met a chi that could sense their fear or trepidation regarding little dogs. My girl prefers some people over others, simply because of her experiences. Just my dollar's worth!

Sometimes all the best training in the world doesn't mean they aren't going to turn around and bite someone. They are small and do have short tempers too and that means they just might bite someone without any notice at all.
Sure they are cute but so is a grown tiger but I wouldn't want one of them either, would you?
If yours hasn't bitten you or anyone yet then you just may have one in a million that won't bite anyone. Consider yourself lucky.
My mother-in-law had a chihuahua when my son was a baby and that dog knew my son well too but that didn't stop that dog from jumping up and trying to bite my babies face did it? I stopped that chihuahua right in his mid air flight just in time to save my baby from being bitten and that was a "good" dog too!
I'll take a large dog anytime!
Sorry if this wasn't what you wanted to hear but you did ask and I did answer your question as honestly as I can.

I hear you on that one. My chihuahua (Wednesday) is the sweetest. I took her to the mini mart today, and one lady said 'oh, how cute!' The other lady said 'they look cute, but they're mean as hell.' Not my Wednesday. She's never ever bitten anyone, I'd feel okay leaving her with kids (although I'd rather not). You can always blame a dog's bad manners on their owner. Three cheers for chihuahuas!

I don't know. People are probably jealous. I have two Poodle and they kind of have a bad reputation too. Everyone thinks they're snobby and mean but that isn't true at all. They aren't snobby. Their owners can be, but I didn't train my dogs like that. Don't worry, I think Chihuahuas are cute.

Well, many people who have chihuahua's don't seem to train them properly. They might be small and cute- but they still need boundaries.
Also the general temperament doesn't help either. according to http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/chihuahua.htm
"Bold and saucy, it moves swiftly to avoid being stepped on. Chihuahua's are strong-willed, intensely loyal and become very attached to their owners, even to the point of jealousy."
So essentially, you get dogs that are not well trained, and a breed prone to aggression (Which isn't checked by owners), Understandbly, there are people who really don't like this breed.
Check out this website- chihuahua's are listed as a potentially aggressive breed while rottweitlers, pitbulls, german shepards are on the gentle breeds list.

I just feel sorry for the people who are not lucky enough to own a Chihuahua. I have several and they are the best dogs in the world. People are just ignorant of the breed and do not know what they are missing.

Some Chihuahuas ARE great dogs - my friend had two that were. And obviously you either got a great dog or raised and trained him properly -or both!
Unfortunately, there are a lot of really spoiled and nasty Chihuahuas out there. They earned their bad reputation.

It's because Chihuahuas are dangerous to children. Maybe some people got it wrong and thought that Chihuahuas are dangerous to everyone. I don't hate Chihuahuas.

people have preferences.. I used to be a big dog only owner and then I fell in love with little ones...people call them rugrats....they do tend to bark more and require more attention...but who cares, I love em! I think that people have tried to teacup some breeds though and the chi's sometimes tend to be sickly and shake when they are small. I disagree with breeding dogs to be nervous and unhealthy.
