The projectile will travel near 2 miles before gravity pulls it back down as it runs out of momentum...

Accurately, it will depend on the barrel length, but its possible to hit a 300 yard target with a .38spl "cowboy" rifle.

Pistols are good under 50 yards but best under 50 feet.

Depends on trajectory and type of bullet and many other factors. I do know of a guy on a shooting show who shot balloons at 600 yds with 38 stub nose.
