Depending on your own personal metabolic rate. You are burning calories even when you are sleeping. Maybe somewhere in the area of 50 to 75 calories per hour. Remember, burning or expending calories is a life function. Its the body using the energy stored in the fat and muscle cells to live. The more active you are the more energy (calories) it takes to perform those activities. Thats why every diet out there insists on an active work out program plus eating healty low calorie high fiber foods.

You actually burn calories all the time, constantly, around the clock. Your body has a basal metabolic rate. This is the energy that is used to maintain the cell's functions. You burn the least calories while sleeping (kind of like your computer in standy-by mode). And you burn the most calories during aerobic activity.

It's true. You burn calories while you are sleeping, even. As long as you are alive, you are burning calories. And, the higher your stress level, the faster your heart beats, and the more calories you burn.

But, I wouldn't use that as a work-out plan. There have been lots of correlational studies that show that the longer you commute, the fatter you are.

You can burn calories doing anything.

The movement of your arms and legs will burn calories. The "bullshit" in question is how much. You're not going to drop 10 lbs driving for a week.

At most, for an hour of driving, you may lose half of a calorie. I repeat, 1/2 a calore -- 0.5.

just living (breathing) burns a few Calories. THe more strenuous the activity, the more Calories you burn. There is a difference between "calories" (small "c") and "Calories" (big "C") 1 big "C" "Calorie" equals 1,000 small "c" calories. When people talk about burning "Calories", they mean the big "C" kind.

Well, even sitting down will burn calories. The question is how much does it burn. If you found yourself in a predicament (ie, near miss, cut-off, etc) and your heart starts racing, then yes, you will burn more calories.

But driving is certainly not a good way to try to lose weight.
