bruce says; Perhaps the bible enthusiasts could explain how if God allegedly made the world in 6 days, the concept of a day could exist if there was no Sun on Day One?

Before you answer, check your Bible. It says that the daylight, was created before the sun.

This tells me that the creation story in Genisis, cannot be taken literally, unless you believe 'the light', is not daylight, thus 'the light', cannot be taken literally. Either way, the story is allegorical.

"Day light was created before the sun?"

The sun is the source of light. Without the sun, how do you suppose we get day light?

The problem stems from the definition of "day". Day is used in the Genesis account to denote a major change and not literal day of 24 hours. We can see this in Genesis 2:4 when after mentioning 7 distinct "days", it says that this is the story of the heavens and the earth in the day that God made the Heavens and the Earth. So the Genesis account wraps all these days into one "day" of creation. There are other texts where day or days is used when meaning years or even and indefinite amount of time.

Also if we imagine what a man being shown these events in a vision or dream would see from his point of view on the surface of the Earth, it would match the Genesis account, since the Sun had been formed way before but sunlight did not reach the surface of the planet until much later as the atmosphere cleared up. A person then describing these events would actually present sunlight and the creation of the Sun, Moon and stars out of the actual time reference in which it really happened.

It is mis-interpretations like this that cause some people to look like idiots in the face of scientific evidence that clearly shows the Earth was not created in seven literal days.

A similar thing happend during the time of Joshua when he prayed that the Sun would be stopped in the sky so he would have more hours of sunlight to continue his battle. What really happened that caused the Sun to appear to have stopped in the sky, we will never know, but the church took this to mean that the Sun revolved around the Earth which caused Galileo many, many problems and made the church eventually look very, very stupid.

yes, light was created on day 1 and the sun and moon were created on day 4. Dude, if God can create the entire universe, (which He did) don't you think he could keep track of time without the sun? You've really not studied this too much. It's GenEsis by the way. Try reading it. It does not say daylight. It says light and if you look up the word in hebrew is mean illumination not DAYLIGHT. If God created everything from nothing (which science keeps pointing to) then he can make light from nothing.

The "light" came before the sun.

"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." (Joh 8:12)

"All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." (Joh 1:3)

Jesus made this world and He provided His own light.

What is wrong Ray, don't you believe that God has the power to create the world in seven literal days? Our daily cycle has not changed since the first day; "And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." (Gen 1:5)

The whole purpose of science is to disprove God because it is difficult to understand the concept of God. This idea of each day being an indefinite time period is just a twist on the theory of evolution.

From our point of view (from Earth) the daylight would be first or we would not see the sun. It takes 8 minutes for the light to travel here, so for humans light came first.
