No you cannot put an end to any of it. I work for the state and I volunteer at food pantrys and I have seen with my own eyes that Hispanics get more medical, welfare and free food than any other nationality. Meanwhile they are driving Hummers, Escalades, Ford F150's and Dodge Rams, Their children run around the office I work in watching television on the cell phones. Now do not tell me that illegals do not get aid and do not tell me they pay taxes. The legal immigrants do but not the illegals. In my office we had two American college girls come in for assistance and they were turned away. They did not want foodstamps, welfare or anything for free, they were there for medical reasons and they were denied help. No in the good ole USA you must be a Hispanic female not in school having baby after baby and getting state assistance. While your husband is out undercutting an American out of a job.

Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
ABOUT ITINS
What is an ITIN?
An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is a tax processing number issued by the Internal Revenue Service. It is a nine-digit number that always begins with the number 9 and has a 7 or 8 in the fourth digit, example 9XX-7X-XXXX.
IRS issues ITINs to individuals who are required to have a U.S. taxpayer identification number but who do not have, and are not eligible to obtain a Social Security Number (SSN) from the Social Security Administration (SSA).
ITINs are issued regardless of immigration status because both resident and nonresident aliens may have U.S. tax return and payment responsibilities under the Internal Revenue Code.
Individuals must have a filing requirement and file a valid federal income tax return to receive an ITIN, unless they meet an exception.

Pancha, they DON'T pay taxes. There might be 10 Mexicans out there that actually apply and report their earnings. The rest of them don't, and that's not a myth, its an F-ing fact. I just love how the criminal excusers find the one example where someone does the right thing and try to excuse the other 20 million that don't. Myth about fictitious SS#'s? You really do live in La-La land.

I work for the same State agency Linda K does. And I have to disagree with you this time. For indocumented aliens(calling them illegal will get us written up) we have to put in a "dummy" ss#. They are only eligible in the state of RI for medic-aid if they are pregnant.Once they have the baby, they are no longer eligible for state aid,but their children are. The system really sucks because if you're an elderly person who's worked hard all your life and happens to have some money in the bank, you get turned down. This is why you have many people cheating the system. These are the people who drive Lexus's and talk on their Razor's while waiting for their food-stamp interview,it's so frustrating to say the least.

Its in ITIN Number you have to fill out W7 You need have a passport of your native country and not expired if you do not have have this you must show two other forms one must have current picture. ie Birth certificate, Drivers Licenses from native country or US, Voter registration
You must send a notarized copy of any form do not send originals.
For children only a letter of registration of the School current Vaccination record and if they do not have a picture ID you must send a picture School pictures are fine if it a baby birth Certificate and Current Vaccination record with a picture
If you have family you want to add as a dependent to your taxes like kids or parent they must be in the United States or be Living in Canada or Mexico
.
Go to Irs.gov there is no charge to get the number of to fill out the form if you can read English it is basic question. a lot of places are charging people $60 dollars to fill this form because they can.
Once you get all the applicants info togther you must submitted with you tax form at the same time you will not put any ss or ITIN number on the actual 1040 or 1040ez you write on the top ITIN Applied for. and mail everything in.

As bradsgranny informed, it is given to resident and nonresident aliens. Those would be people from other countries here on a work permit. That is not the same as illegal immigrant. No illegal in their right mind is going to go apply for a tax ID number.

Just because this is available to them does NOT mean that they all are using it.
Employers do NOT want to hire illegal workers if they still have to pay into the system beyond meager wages. Social Security is not the only thing employers have to pay for each employee. They are also required to pay Unemployment Insurance for each employee. There are many reasons why employers choose to hire those who will work for cash only.

Yes, you need it to file for a refund of taxes if you don't earn enough that you need to pay as much as was deducted.
It does nothing whatsoever for state and local services like schools and hospitals. It is a federal number.
