Bible is not the word of God so you better not waste your time following it. As you know what we call Holy Bible now consists of two parts: The Old Testement and The New Testement. The old testement is bunch of meaningless stories that reading them was the biggest waste of my time and only by reading a part of it you realize there is no way this is the word of God. All you see in Old Testement an endless series of murder, rape, theft and ... in all of which God plays the first role !!! Coming to new testement ... After Jesus died more than 60 Gospels on how he lived was written by different people. out of these 4 were chosen by a group of priests 300 years !!! after the death of jesus to be the official one including Luke, John ... Reading this 4 book will also tell you that this is not the word of an almighty God. More than 800 accurate contradictions, historical lies, scientificly impossible miracles and ... have been found in Bible none of which have been answered by Catholic church.
Instead of wasting your time and reading a book full of murder, stupid stories , bizzare miracles and etc , try to more humanist in your life. Helping your fellow human beings does not need instructions from God. All you need to do in life is to make sure you will never hurt any one intentionally, and that you will be nice to your fellow human, you will try to be a good citizen of the world and nothing else matters ... Best of Luck

John 1:1 In the beginngin was the word, and the word was with GOD and the word was GOD.
The Word is GOD.
I suggest you to read the King James Version of the Bible.
Or you can purchase a parallel Bible, if you get frustrated w/ the "ths" at the end of most of the words. (It has King James Version, New International Version(NIV), Amplified Version and New King James Version.)
I'm not fond of the NIV of the Bible b/c they took out some of the Lord's prayer in Matthew 6, but it helps you locate things faster.
God bless.

The Bible is the written Word, which is inspired by the Holy Ghost, which is the person of God. I read several versions of the bible. From the Geneva Bible, The KJV-1611, The Bishops Bible, The NIV, The Amplified, and the Life Applications Bible. The KJV is my favorite.

To my mind, the Bible reflects the Spirit of God's word. You could read the original Hebrew and Greek texts, but then, would you be able to appreciate it and fully fathom God's word through them? Or you could include the Book of Enoch and a host of other books that were edited out by the Church fathers in YOUR Bible, (as one answerer suggested) and see for yourself if you're not as confused as before when you started reading it.
I suggest you read the version that "speaks" to you, one that's easiest for you to understand and appreciate. Many versions are available for your further edification, but then keep in mind that THERE IS MORE TO GOD than what's in the Bible. Traditions also come in handy to better understanding the Bible, and of course, a personal relationship with God is most crucial. Peace.

The Bible is the word of man, which has been relentlessly ripped apart and put back together in ways that suited the church fathers. Why not start with the Book of Enoch, or the Acta Thomae? Oh, that's right, you can't read those, they were REMOVED from the Bible.
Constantine removed the Book of Enoch, and Gelasius removed the Acta Thomae in 495 A.D. There are over 50 different versions of the Bible in english alone.

I read the New International Version, but there are Bibles out there that are easier to read than this one even. When you go to the christian book store, the people working there will be able to help you with ease. They know what you'll need, I used to work in one.
The Bible was originally written in Greek and Chaldean, and all the translations out there are only breaking these languages down to make it easier for us to understand, they do pretty well too.

They are all pretty good translations but I like the king james version the best. The words written in red seem to tug on my heart the most. These words were copied down from what God's Son said. I believe they are very powerful words for increasing ones spiritual logic and growth.

You should read as many different versions of the Bible as possible.
I think you may be a little confused...you can follow all of them, since they all teach the same thing. If you want to get technical, the "real" word of God is the original Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek texts. So, I suppose you should educate yourself and learn to read these languages if you want to and then you can read the one true Bible if it interests you that much.
As you start to learn these languages, you will find that many languages have different expressions that can be translated different ways. For example, in Spanish "me llamo John" means literally "myself I call John." However, in English we would say "My name is John." However you choose to translate it, my name is clearly John and not Steve or Frank or Judy.
If the Bible explained everything about God, we would know everything about God. We would be as smart as God. We would know all that God knows. We would be God. It wasn't designed for that.
Language is designed to carry a message. The Bible clearly explains enough of what we NEED to know to be Christians while giving us the freedom to love God in many different ways.

The Bible is inspired by God. Therefore is Gods Word.
King James Version is excellent, but sometimes hard to understand. NKJV is easier. NIV is a good for beginners study, but really should be used with the KJV or NKJV for comparison of scripture.
