I have heard from several people that Garlic will ward off fleas ( or kill them), and Olive oil (internally and externally) will keep their skin moisturized. I have not tried either. What are your thoughts on the matter?

These are 2 great questions that I have found miracle solutions for....First, the fleas...if you want a foolproof, natural, non-poisonous way to be rid of fleas forever..this may sound as crazy as it did to me at first, but you take an old mayonaise or jelly jar (clean of course) and poke a bunch of holes in the lid to make a short of homemade shaker out of it. Then, fill the jar with "20 Mule Team Borax" Soap Powder (you should be able to buy this at most grocery stores or Wal-Mart near the laundry soaps..just ask...sprinkle this dry soap powder all over your carpets throughout the whole house just prior to vacuuming and do this every time you vacuum for the first 2-3 weeks (that's about how long it will take before you notice a dramatic improvement)..be sure to do this 3 or more times per week for these 2-3 weeks..after 2-3 weeks when you notice the fleas start to disappear, then you only need to sprinkle the carpets every few times that you vacuum (basically, the soap powder sterilizes the fleas so they cannot reproduce in your carpets and around your house and they literally disappear completely after that...we used to spray poisons in the house, flea dip the dogs in poison etc.. and then we found out about this miracle cure to fleas...stick with it the first 3-4 weeks if you don't notice an immediate improvement, I promise you will!!!

Now, the dry skin/coat problem...the first thing is to be sure that you are feeding the dog a high quality food...that make a HUGE difference as I found (I used to buy the 50 Pound, cheapest bag of dog food at Sam's Club and the dog had horrible dry skin)...since I have been feeding my dogs Neutro Max Dog Food (a little more expensive, but MUCH better), my dogs coats are shiny and their skin is greatly improved. The other thing that we did that we notice a big difference in our dogs' skin was we purchased, in the pet supply section of Wal-Mart, in a smallish brown bottle some sort of oily supplement that you sprinkle a little over their food and that also made a big difference in their coats and skin.

Hope these things help!! I promise you 100% that the 20 Mule Team Borax works like a miracle to rid your home and your dog of fleas indefinitely after the first several weeks...I am so glad I listened to the people that told us to try that!!

I have heard tha the garlic supplements work really well against all kinds of bugs--but I am not sure if a puppy can have them.

If it's for you which darn puppy it could be, I'd do what you are saying and add the supplements.

My dog recently had some fleas and it was the weekend and I could not get her dipped right away. There was a spray to treat it which did the trick. You then spray that in your house. This lady there told me that the stuff for the dog that you put on their backs works well. She lives in a farming area and the dogs roam in and out woods and they do not get infested.

Good luck. I feel itchy just thinking about it.

I'm not sure that you can use it on your animal (especially if its got dry skin), but if you're having problems with fleas in your home, sprinkle salt on your carpet, then vacuum it up the next day.

I had a problem with fleas in my home, so I tried this and it worked for me.

Good luck.

I don't know about fleas but my vet said olive oil is a yes for dry skin. My Yorkie was scratching something awful and we went to the vet a few times and had tests done, etc., finally the vet said to try a vegetarian diet - since being vegetarian, the scratching has stopped.

I've used moth balls or moth crystals to get rid of fleas. Not sure about the skin.

It's all merely a matter of personal preference. We have short hair and guys such as it. And i prefer a man with short hair over a person with long hair because long tresses tends to make guys look as well girly.
