MY daughter is already taller than me and his father, and she is only 13 so I was wondering if any of you knew when will she stop growing. She is upset about being that tall because she wouldn't be able to wear high heels. Any suggestions? And do you know when she will stop growing?

You should treat being tall as a blessing!... not a curse. I'm taller than my mother, my father and my 4 siblings. I am very proud of it now but it took me a long time to come to terms with it because of negative feedback from my family when I was younger. You should tell her every day how lucky she is to be tall!!!!! If you don't, she will feel like something is wrong with her. My daughter is 8 and taller than average and I constantly tell her how lucky she is and she is extremely confident about it.

And why can't tall people wear high heels? There's nothing wrong with being taller than a man. If the man has a problem with it then I wouldn't want my daughter associating with someone so superficial.

Look at all the famous women who are tall and proud and wear high heels!

Has she started her period? Generally, girls only grow another inch or two after they get their period.

If she wants to wear heels, being tall shouldn't stop her, although she needs to be careful not to hurt her feet with too high heels. (I have a tall friend who is married to a guy who's shorter than her, and she still wears heels.) Reassure her that the guys will be shooting up soon and they'll keep growing long after she stops, so it will all be okay in the long run.

Do not worry about being tall. Except the way you were made and realize that you are the best you in the whole world. If everyone was the same height, it would be a very boring world. So please do not let being tall or short bother you. Enjoy the way you are, and others will too.

Its unusual for her to be taller than both of you at a young age. Im assuming that youre both of average height. If she continues to grow at the same rate for the next few years, then she may have a disorder of the pituitary gland such as acromegaly. A telltale sign can be growing past both parents height at first onset of puberty. if she continues to grow at the same rate over the next couple years, than you should take her to the doctor.

About 2 years after her menstrual cycle begins, she will probably reach her max height. If you are concerned, get her a check up, she may be overproducing growth hormone. Growth hormone is produced in the pituatary gland in the brain and regulates puberty and growth. If something is going wrong there it can cause gigantisism. A simple blood test can rule it out.

It's bad enough being a teenager cause you've got all kinds of things going wacky in the body. If you're concerned about some kind of pituitary malfunction causing her to grow more than what you think is normal...see your family doctor to get her tested.

You only get one major growth spurt in your life, usually around the age she is. She won't stop growing AT ALL, but definitely won't grow as noticeably anymore. Maybe an inch or two...
