My father in-law was live trapping wild cats and having the human society come get them. I think it cured all his troubles, except the day he caught a skunk instead of a cat, but that's another story.

Trap him with a humane trap and have the cat euthanized. If you had him since he was a kitten, that would have been the time to do something besides having him turn feral. No one wants to adopt a feral cat. Shelters have to put them down also. Do not dump your problem on a shelter. It is your problem, trap him and euthanize him humanely.
Pinky is one of those people who live in the perfect little world where a feral cat goes to the shelter and gets a bath and a brushing and gets adopted into a perfect little home with kids and all. It is a FERAL cat. People do not adopt FERAL cats. Shelters do not even keep them long because they are a danger to the staff. I am sure the cat is unvaccinated for rabies. Why would the shelter put money into a cat the can't be handled???????

Call your animal control people and they will come out and help. Its better than killing the cat. Poor cat does not know any better. Maybe you guys should chill a little on the cats, iknow you live in the country but hey, you can have to many animals. Just think first and phone some one for help. Dont let your Dad do that to the cat. Good luck, hope the cat will be fine.

Okay- First thing to do is contact the animal welfare groups in your area. They should be able to help you trap the cat, using humane traps, and hopefully help you get the cat fixed. If you can't keep the cat, I would then try to find a farm who will take it. Many farms will accept a few cats
By getting the cat fixed, you solve a lot of problems that an unneutered tomcat causes- Spraying, nightly vocalizations, generally being annoying. You should also try to get the rest of your cats fixed also. Too many cats die in Shelters because people let thier cats have kittens.
As for an argument to keep the cat to your Dad, Check out the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) movement for handling feral cat populations.
Check out this website: http://www.alleycat.org/ These people do nothing but work with feral cats, and they are a good reference. Also, if you can't find someone to help you, I would try contacting them- they might know of a group near you that can help.

You might see if the animal humane society would lend you a "live trap" and try to catch your cat. If that all pans out then you have a choice or option to try to re-tame your pet or give the cat to the animal shelter. Ask their advise about the cat being adoptable since it went wild on you. It would probably take alot of hours and dedication to bring him back to tame. I wish I had a better answer for you to help you figure out something easy.

The cat probably just needs proper training. If you don't think you, your father, or anyone else you know is qualified then try asking your local veternarian/animal shelter to recommend something or someone you can use. You should take the cat to the vet anyway because he may have something seriously wrong with him. Also, don't come towards the cat. Cats find this uncomforting and threatening. Do things to have the cat trust you and want to be by you. If worse comes to worse, release it or give it to someone else. Do NOT kill it!

DO NOT LET YOUR DAD SHOOT IT! First of all that it just inhumane, second of all it is illegal in many states. He could get fined or even end up in jail for animal cruelty. Believe me when I say this, my brother in law bragged about shooting some cats hanging around his property and he's sitting in jail right now....I tried to talk him out of it because it's just horrible to think someone would do that to an animal..even if it causes problems.
Just call the humane society or SPCA, they usually will come and catch the animal.

Since you live in the country, get a humane trap and catch her. Check around the area to see if anyone needs a barn cat that way she will be able to live out her life in happiness and still serve a purpose.

Use a live trap. Purchase or borrow a live trap -- your humane society may be able to loan you one. Put in a can of opened cat food. You're only problem is you may catch a few other cats since you have so many.

There is the possibility that your dad is worried about rabies; if this is sudden behavior for this cat, there is a good chance it could have contracted rabies. Ask your dad about it. He may also be worried that it's a disease besides rabies that the rest of your cats might get.
