No question but that this slush fund has been one of the few positives, but on a dedicated fund, federal level. It doesn't pay for schools.

In addition, it is a reason already given historically for not enforcing laws against illegals given their drain of funds and services at the state level. "Well, at least some of them are paying into SS which we'll get as a retiring country, and we all know it may go bankrupt ".

However, I've seen estimates that on average an illegal immigrant costs taxpayers as much as $55,000 per year, when you count schooling and benefits to dependants. They pay nothing like that in taxes.

In addition, the Senate Bill would reward use of fake SS numbers, even when that use did damage to others, by giving credit for these SS funds to newly legalized illegals under the Bill. Since the funds were counted on, that makes it much more likely that the fund will dry up, as your article says.

The fund was designed not as a welfare program but as an annuity. You pay in and get (more or less ) what you earned. There is already talk of changing it so those who didn't save get more and those who worked to save money all their lives for a comfortable retirement may do without, or with much reduced amounts. If the legalization goes through, therefor, suddenly the ones most likely to get out the benefits we've been paying in all our lives for our retirement is the newly legalized illegals.

I am against that provision. I think using someone else's number really hurts another person, and it shouldn't be rewarded.

So what, the government will still say SS is going broke. Their are people that die and never collect either.
