"Best" is probably not an apt description being that it's so arbitrary. There will always be someone who has a different idea of which band was the best, and as time passes by there will be more bands to take the "best" title. Given that, I would say that the Beatles are the most influential music group in history bar none.

Let's start by defining "History." Or perhaps "music group."
I could make a good case that the Duke Ellington Band that payed Newport in 1956 was the best.....or the Berlin Philharmonic under Furtwangler in the 30's - 40's...or Bil Monroe's Bluegrass Boys in the early 50's...or the choir of the Leipzig Cathedral when JS Bach was there in the 17th Century....or .....

Absolutely. Even though I wasnt around in their heyday (I'm only 22), almost all rock songs as well as other styles of music have been influenced by the beatles in their songs. In my opinion, they are one of the bands that has swayed musical styles and tastes (whether it be rock, pop, metal, etc.). unlike any other band of the modern era of music Even though Oasis has recently been voted best band by a british survey, they are influenced by the beatles more than any band out there. The Beatles still hold the crown in the opinion of this musician.

They're the most influential and best selling act in history. Whether or not that makes them the best is a matter of personal opinion I guess.

I am from that era and I never thought they were the best. They were really good, but so were a lot of other rock and roll bands from America and England.
