There are hand held straighteners with ceramic pads.
Walgreens and lots of stores carry them.

When I want to save my hair from the damage that constant use of my ceramic irons cause, I use a round brush and a blow dryer with a diffuser setting. Depending on if my hair is wet or dry, I will use a natural bristle (dry) or a synthetic bristle (wet). I start at the root with the brush underneath and work my way to the tips of my hair a small section at a time moving the brush with the blow dryer. Before I begin, though, I use a product by Frizz Ease called straighten up. When I am finished I use the ion setting on my blow dryer to get rid of any flyaways left over.

Not all black people have to use a relaxer to get straight hair.

1st of what is your ethnic background? If you are black then u would use a relaxer. if you are of the other then you should use a perm without the rods this will straighten your hair if u just put the perm solution onto your hair and comb it through there are alot of ways and u may want to check with a beauty school in your area some do really good jobs of giving the kind of service your looking for at a really reasonable rate.

there are a few different ways to straighten your hair:
* with a straightening iron. these are generally pretty good, but u get what u pay for
* an iron like u use to iron ur clothes. use a towel or similar to protect urself from burning
* a hair dryer. pull ur hair down with a brush as you dry it

Straighening your hair without an iron:

*First of all if you are african american this technique may not work for you.

-Before bed wash your hair, towel dry and apply a straightening balm or gel
-Next wrap your hair tightly around your head (like a turban) securing your hair with clips or bobby pins
-Next wrap toilet paper around your head on top of the hair securing it as well with hair clips or pins

By the morning you hair with be dry and straight. Let me know how this worked for you. I always used to do this when I was in highschool and it saved a lot of time and looked great.

You could blow dry it straight. Then use a good palm aid to take care of flyaways.
