The Catholic Church does not believe in limbo. It was a suggestion for what happened to babies that died before they were baptized. This suggestion has been discarded.

However the Catholic Church does not only use Holy Scripture for the basis of all doctrine. It could not. The early Catholic church existed before and during the time that the New Testament was written (by Catholics).

Catholics believe that the Holy Spirit was guiding the early church (and is guiding the church today) to make the correct choices about things like:
- The Holy Trinity (which is also only hinted at in the Bible)
- Going to church on Sunday instead of Saturday (which is actually directly against one of the Ten Commandments)
- Which writings include in the New Testament?

And things that are even more modern like
- Slavery is bad. Slavery is never declared evil in the Bible. This is one of the justifications for slavery in the Confederate States.
- Democracy is good. The Bible states that either God should be the leader of the nation like Israel before the kings or kings should be the leader, "Give to Caesar that which is Caesar's." This was talked about a lot during the American Revolution.
- Cloning is bad. This was never imagined in Biblical times.

This second source of doctrine is called Holy Tradition.

With love in Christ.

There is nothing in the Bible that mentions "limbo" or any other place like the common concept of it. Limbo is a fictitious place that originated from the Catholics. It was one of many ways to bring more money into the church; you have to pay the priest to say a mass so that the soul of loved ones will be released from limbo, and purgatory (also not mentioned in the Bible).

At least the Catholic leaders in the U.S. have decided not to teach about limbo any more because it doesn't make any sense to teach that babies who have not sinned should go to limbo rather than to heaven.

It is much better to trust the Bible rather than church traditions which have their origin in paganism.

The Bible says nothing of Limbo. It's a Roman Catholic teaching that has no other merit than to charge patrons money so they can offer phony prayers that will get these souls out of "purgatory" (same as limbo).

I am a Christian, believing in 1-God alone and his Son, Jesus. The Trinity and other Roman Catholic traditions that drift from the Bible's teachings are an insult to Jesus and the beloved Gospel he presented to his fellow men.

Actually, the Bible speaks of a limbo-like state referred to as "Abraham's Busom". This is the place that souls go Pre-judgement. I think it is just a euphemism for death. The idea that people can end, and begin again at some future point of judgement is just alien.

It doesn't. Limbo was a construct of the Catholic church. Can you imagine they wanted us to believe that innocent babies went to Limbo instead of heaven if they had not been baptized? Scared me to death when I was a little kid.
