Neither. Try training the dog. If you are too busy to "train" your dog, dont buy one!!!

Get BOTH a real solid fence and an electronic (underground) fence. The underground fence comes with an electronic collar that gives the dog a shock when he gets too close to the wire.

Malinois can be incredible jumpers - watch any episode of "COPS". They can also be very aggressive. If a child wanders into your unfenced yard to pet the cute doggie and is bitten, YOU could be fully liable since you have provided an "attractive nuisance". Also, without a fence, there is nothing to stop loose dogs from coming on to your property and attacking your dog. If you don't want to fence your whole yard, put up a dog pen with a concrete floor and a wire top.

Remember - the electronic fences require plenty of training time. If the dog blasts across the wire at full speed, he will be gone before he feels the shock. And then he can't come home without being shocked again.

i would say the fence because he/she would have definite boundaries and would not become confused. the collar works well with other types of training, but i wouldn't think that you would need it because the malinois is a very intelligiant breed that likes to please their owners. also, the fence would work well if you werent around everytime heshe is outside
