Education! People have to learn more about pollution and what effects their actions (dumping, buying goods with a lot of packaging etc.) have on the environment. Only then people can act responsibly, reduce waste and recycle and reuse as much as possible.

hell if i know, but it's a good question. seems to me that we all basically need to stop using so much energy. must of the worlds pollution (at least the greenhouse gasses) comes from energy consumption. of course, pretty soon we won't have a choice.
you can start by turning off the lights. if you can live near where you work, then walking or biking is a great. riding a bike comes out to something like the equivalent of 100,000 miles/gallon of gasoline.
if you live in a cold climate then good insulation goes a really long way to reducing the energy used to heat your house. if you live where it is hot then there are alternatives to AC like swamp coolers or running air pipes through the ground.
if the computer you're using has a CRT monitor (like a TV) then maybe a laptop or flat-screen would be better.
othen there's alternative sources of elecricity... solar, wind, hydro (if you're a town) tidal (if you're a coastal town)
and alternative ways to move your car if you must. fuel cells are still a ways off, but seem very promising. people talk a lot about bio fuels like bio-diesel and ethanol. from what i understand these have serious problems. making ethanol from corn requires a ton of energy, and in the may actually produce more CO2. and any fuel source that comes from plants has 2 basic problems: there is not enough farmland on the planet to produce the amount of fuel that we currently use in the form of hydrocarbons from oil, and if you're taking your fuel out of the soil and then burning it you are depleting the soil, maybe really fast. know anything about the "dust Bowl" imagine that happening all over the planet. (worst case scenario?)
basically if we don't want to destroy the planet we will have to start getting our energy from renewable sources. those technologies are still in their infancy (never mind the opposition they meet with from the VERY powerful people who control our current energy sources). so for now the best thing we can do is to use less.
i know, i know, there's enough oil in the planet to last us another 75 years or something. but the problem is that it will become increasingly difficult to extract and to refine, requiring more and more energy to do so and yealding less and less, thus becoming less and less efficient as prices go up. for now the energy industry is trying to squeez us for as many pennies as they can without killing us (at least not so many of us that we can't buy the stuff any more). remember what happened in california a few years back? and did you hear that the oil companies are enjoying record profits while people are paying record prices at the pump? and isn't there something going on in Afganistan? and Iraq? did someone say Iran?
this is probably getting longer than you hoped. sorry. i'll just leave you with a thought: the people of the United States constitute 4% of the world's population, but use 25% of the world's energy. Don't tell me there's not another way we could go about things.

Put your car away and walk. Recycle, recycle, recycle. Think about how to use things more than once and what you throw in the bin. Avoid plastic whenever you can. How many of those little plastic carrier bags are shoved under your sink. Take your own carrier bags with you when you go to the store. I carry a straw basket with paper bags inside for if I need to carry more. Shop at the market when you can. Use the back of store reciepts to write out your shopping lists. Think of the paper we waste! Don't let the water run when you brush your teeth or are working in your kitchen. Start a compost pile. Plant a tree. Turn the lights off and don't turn them on when they are not completely necessary. Everyone needs to get educated on the subject and then take individual action NOW!!

to a level I consider John W ... the object is oversimplified and does not comprehend the finished image. asserting that nonetheless, undertaking a mass changeover of our capability structures would supply an excellent style of employment (besides the very undeniable fact that conversely unemployment). The national debt would skyrocket (as those style of infrastructure transformations would fee billions). So taxes would probable be raised (or money slashed from different initiatives). i think of a scientific substitute of our capability components does could ensue, besides the undeniable fact that I see it relatively is a gradual transitional technique. probable maximum suitable specializing in new advancements having to utilise such structures, or changing out of date capability sectors with such "renewable" industries (i.e. extremely of changing previous with new, replace previous with a metamorphosis). undecided suitable to the call of the piece the two ... mentions "international" interior the call yet specializes interior the u . s .?? worldwide places which comprise Greece does not have the money to construct the substitute in the event that they needed too ... their government's are broke! So stable concept, yet no longer the "saviour" made out to be. with a bit of luck we do start to circulate down this music besides the undeniable fact that (in Australia a rfile replaced into undertaken to be sure a thank you to alter the full united states over ... the expenses have been super besides the undeniable fact that it replaced into additionally to be achieved in 10 years ... which i think of isn't reasonable, it took Australia 15 years to transform from analogue to digital television, so a metamorphosis to renewable energies would take a minimum of yet another 5 years than that).

Cut down on waste of all kinds. So many things we think we want we either tire of quickly or we find when we get them we did not need them anyway.
We can buy goods that are more biodisposable / ecofriendly.
We are all the cause and the solution to the problem.
Follow your heart.

i think solar panel could play a big part, instead of electricity through stations. Imagine every single house with this type of pre-modern invention.. it could make a difference. Cars also play a big part, electricity all the way. Its sucks for some as they dont see electrical cars as fast, but who wants fast when you can only do 60mph on duels, and 70 on motorways.. whats the point of having a car that can go 140?

It would take a mass conversion to renewable energy sources like wind and solar power. Also we'll have to find ways to recycle everything.

Everyone should go back to horse and buggy or start walking. And i don't know what else. Maybe we should all revert back to the 1800's it didn't seem so bad then.
