If a lot of the undocumented (illegal) workers were deported, there would be a slight dip in the house-construction market--until the workers could make it back across the border and report back to work.

Documents? We don't need no stinking documents!

There would be some price settling, but with the HUGE guest worker program they are talking about implementing, it would be an extremely transient price adjustment.

There is no question that the huge pressure on population has, amongst other things, raised property prices in California as a state. However, that has had the effect of pricing most Americans in California out of the American dream, so there are two sides to that story, as well.

One of the big problems in Bergen County, NJ, especially in towns like North Bergen and surrounding areas, is that 15 or 20 illegals will crowd into a single apartment. Chinese are just as bad. All these people have a habit of severe overcrowding, and they turn neighborhoods into pigstys.

Deporting them all would be a godsend.

If that should happen, rents would drop. Landlords also take advantage of the illegals by charging them more than they would typically be able to get otherwise. They also use the "I'll report you" card if the illegals balk at paying what they are asking. I know this is a fact.
