If being a psychic was true, the government would breed them.

Well what a lot of excuses you are getting here. How very convenient!
The real answer to you question is simple….because a (quote) ‘psychic’ only has the same chance as anyone else.
James Randi ( http://www.randi.org ) offers $1,000,000 to anyone that can show ‘psychic’ powers in controlled conditions. It is still sat in the bank (and has been for years). The accounts are available to view. I looked and it’s there.
Why would this be?…….
“Because a psychic can’t just switch the power on and off”…..well they manage pretty well when standing on a stage in front of a paying audience.
“Because a psychic doesn’t need/want the money” – fine, give it to a charity.
“Because a psychic can’t use the ‘power’ for their own good” – fine, again, show me a charity that doesn’t want a million dollar donation.
The excuses run on and on and on….
Could the best reason be that whilst untested you can claim anything? Once exposed as ‘powerless’ people might start to question (although sadly in practice this is often not the case)
Silvia Brown has been quoted here as a source. This is the person who agreed to be tested 246 weeks ago (and counting) and has still to come forward. Also worth reading this http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,180681,00.html detailing her faux pas regarding the trapped miners in West Virginia.
I’ve seen people predict lottery numbers and get them exactly right…..do a search for Chris Angel…he is a magician, and it’s a trick.
‘Psychics’ can’t predict lottery numbers because they are not able to use Cold Reading, cheating, research, generalisation, earphones or any other method usually employed to boost their egos.
Read the Psychic Mafia, Flim Flam, the Skeptic’s Guide to the Paranormal etc etc etc.
Check out ..
http://www.randi.org
http://www.aske.org.uk - look at the ‘award list’ all that money still unclaimed around the world.
Read Corrinda's "13 Steps to Mentalism" and decide if Geller is really a psychic.
Read Ian Roland's "Full Facts book of Cold Reading" and decide if Edwards, Acorah and their like are really talking to the dead.
Don't fall for this rubbish about no being able to use these powers for 'personal gain' it's an excuse, not a reason.
Each time 'psychic ken' charges 50 dollars to speak to poor departed auntie doris, isn't this personal gain? 50 dollars minus expenses worth to be precise.
Not often you see one of the big name psychics do a tour and not charge an entrance fee.
Another headline you never see is " Psychic gives winning lottery numbers to Cancer research" Where is the 'personal gain' there!
So there you have it. Feel free to flame but if you really do have psychic powers wouldn’t your time be better spent applying for the million dollars? Testing can be arranged almost anywhere in the world. http://www.randi.org/research/index.html
Go on, prove me wrong, I would genuinely love for you to get the cash.
Honestly…I’m happy to name a handful of charities that are crying out for funds. You could save lives!
How selfless is that! Your ‘psychic’ powers wouldn’t think of not working…..I think they would try extra hard…….don’t you?

If you have any of this ability yourself, you'll know that 99.9% of the time you can't use it for yourself. I can read Tarot cards for others, but cannot do a reading for myself. I think it is a gift meant to be given away; shared, not kept to oneself. There are occasions where a person plays the lotto on a "hunch" or plays certain numbers because they dreamed about them.
Also, unless you have an extreme ability, it comes and goes and there is no on/off switch for it. I wish I could be "on" all the time, but no go!

the same reason you don't see headlines saying "god gave good christian follower winning lotto numbers"
numbers are rarely a psychic ability normally psychics get impressions as feelings scents visions tastes or sounds, even if they do get psychic impressions many people don't know that's what they are or don't understand the message

i don't believe a psychic can use their abilities for personal gain. i've heard that they can't predict or see anything that will affect them, such as their own death or illness.
