I was brought up in a catholic family, i prayed, went to church and did communion and all of that, but my life has been one bad thing after another, i felt betrayed, so i finally denounced my faith and stopped beleiving, why do u beleive in a god that grants the prayers of some but not others like me?

I'm sorry that you had so much trouble and pain in your life. I am Catholic also. I was away from the church for a long time because I just kinda wanted to do my own thing. It was about 4-5 years ago that I started feeling something missing in my life. I couldn't figure it out. Initially I started looking for a sense of meaning in my life. Tried a couple churches, even a Methodist church. Nothing felt quite right until I found the church I attend now. It's a Catholic church. It is truly amazing when I look back now on things that happened in my life and to people I love. I looked at things very much like you. My son went to jail, I was in financial hell, didn't have the greatest relationship with my wife which caused us to separate for a year. Looks pretty gloomy huh? Where was God during all this? Well, my son was running with some pretty bad people. He was put in jail where he had time to reflect on where his life was going and he now attends mass with me and my wife who are now together with a relationship stronger than ever because we needed time apart to see how much we needed each other. As for the finances, we still live week to week, but when I look back, there is always enough there. There is always a sum of money that comes from somewhere right before we really need it. Sometimes God doesn't give us what we want. Sometimes that's a good thing because we rarely know what we want and our mind is always changing. Mostly God gives us what we need. Because he knows us. I doubt what I said will change your mind about God right now. But please keep in mind what I said. Please give Him time to work in your life. I don't know what you have been through, but maybe some of the things were for the better. For your better. Maybe they weren't what you wanted. Maybe they were what you needed. God is always there waiting for you to turn around and talk to him. Start small and tell Him how you feel. Even if it's anger. Tell Him that you hurt and need healing. I know it's cliche' but even if you don't believe in him, he believes in you and he loves you very much even if you don't feel it. Faith isn't a feeling. Faith is what keeps us praying when we have no feeling to grasp. If everyone had that feeling of God's love and presence, there would be no need for faith. Hang in there my friend. God Bless you.

I was brought up a catholic as well, and up until i asked for ex-communication from our parish 3 years ago, i too was involved in all the usual rituals. However there are many people who need faith not because they constantly need or want things but for someone to talk to because they believe that "God" is always listening. Some people have faith because they are afraid and some loose their faith and then regain it when they loose a loved one or a tragedy occurs. There has been no actual proof if there is a "God" but there has been much conspiracy on the topic, whether someones so called "prayers" have been answered may be a result of fate rather than faith but it's entirely up to the individual which way they see the circumstances.

I'm sorry but the other person who said there is no God is a fool.
Yes, there IS a God!
I'm surprised, being brought up in a Catholic family you would
feel the way you do. Why have you denounced your faith? Did
you think once you believed in God the bad things would stop?
No! Satan is the god is this world. The Lord God Almighty lets
him have his way - but read the book of Revelation - Satan loses
and God wins! God allows things to happen to us for a reason,
maybe to teach us something, but that is not to say He has
stopped answering prayer. He probably has answered many of
your prayers. But you closed the door on Him. How can He act
in your behalf if you shut Him out??? Think about this -
I have some prayers I am waiting answers to, but that doesn't
mean God says no! It's in HIS timing not ours. You have to
believe to receive! Get with the program - you never lose with
God!
I shall never stop believing in Him - He has done so much for me!
He saved me, He kept me from dieing when I tried to kill myself -
what more can I tell you??? Don't give up!

The very fact that I am here, is what God did for me. He created me and He loves me. I've had many bad things in my life also but I never denounce or give up my faith or belief in God. God wants you back. God does answer all prayers but not always everything we ask for because He knows better than we do just what we need. Come on home and accept His love and forgiveness and His mercy. Trust that He knows you feel hurt and betrayed and He wants to heal you with His tremendous love. Start by being grateful for all you do have, not bitter for what you don't have. God can and will heal your hurt and pain, just give Him a chance.

You don't know Him well (which is as much as I can say for myself). But why settle for a shallow and lazy excuse to stop believing?
Have you scrutinized your life recently? How long have you searched for answers? Maybe YOU are doing something wrong, or maybe YOU are not doing anything to correct the wrong things people do to you. Would it be fair to you if I blamed YOU for the many stupid things that are happening in MY life? Do you think what you're doing is fair--to you, especially?
God isn't your doormat. Nor is He the genie of the lamp that grants your every wish. You'd have to do better in this life than whine about your misfortunes and then put the blame on everyone around you and on God. Don't ever stop trying. Peace.

God is great and before you were born he knew his plan for you. Maybe the things you wanted are not the plan for you. Maybe questioning your faith is part of Gods plan for you so you can find him and know him with your entire being. Maybe the things that hurt you will make you stronger.
I went through a long time where I didn't know God. I was even more miserable then. It took me a very long time to accept God back into my life but now that I have I will never let go again.

well I am not necessarily a Chrisian, but that's just whiny bullcrap. Your life can't be all that bad, can it? Wa wa, your girlfriend broke up with you.... do you have leukemia? No. Do you have family or friends? Do you have a home? Yes. So stop complaining. whether or not God gave you these things or not, you still believe in Him if you blame things on Him. So even if you renounce your faith and blame God for things that are bad, then you still believe. To really renounce a faith you must move on and realize you contribute to your life, and so whenever something bad happens to you it is almost always going to be your own fault. So stop insulting people's faiths and stop being a crybaby.

well you were raised catholic, did you ever try to find out who Jesus is? not just praying going to church and doing the actions. i mean like trying to make Jesus a friend, spend time with Him. I have been a Christian since i was about 5, i was raised Baptist. at one point i was at a place like you. but i tried not to blame God for everything. i did stop going to church but i never renounced my faith in Jesus. i kept pushing through. i would read my Bible by myself, pray at home.
one thing that really helped me was when i realized when i pray it is not a wish that gets granted every time i pray. i had to realize that i am never in control of my life. the more i fight the more bad things happen to me. the more i let go and trust God the easier things became. i was really surprised by this. even now things are easier than they were then. also in the Bible is says
James 4:3
3When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
try not to make prayers that you want answered, but try to have prayers that God wants answered for your life. what does God want you to change in your life, not what do i want God to change for me because i know what is best for my life and God does not.

your life isn't over. I used to feel like you, until I gave my life to Jesus Christ. Now I see that even the bad things were for my own good as I am happier now than I ever was before and being here in this place and time would not have been possible if God hadn't removed others from my life. Open up your self to God and wait.... be still. Your blessings will come.

I was like you. Brought up, in my case, in a non denominational Christian home. I prayed etc. but I never felt like God heard my prayers at least he never cared enough to answer them. But you know what, he did not hear them because I was never praying to Him. Whe you get caught up in "religions" you expect that if you do the things the religion tells you have a free pass to heaven and eternal happiness. Not so.
First of all, I think that is important to know that God does not want us to die and that death is sin.God wants us to live eternally, right here, on earth. Sound incredible doesn't it? But I believe that Mt Zion really exists, that there are streets of gold and gates of pearl, if not built yet then in our future. Salvation is for the living not the dead.
God has established his throne already on the earth,. It is the throne of David. This is a real throne, in existance today.
The man who owns this throne is the earths rightful ruler.
You ask what God has done for me. God has given me something to believe in. That there is a way to eternal life, if not in my generation, in my children's or children's children's. We, as humans must strive to be perfect.
Thanks for reading.
