If you live in a city with a Chinatown, its best to go to one of those travel agencies there--they can put together a custom package for you where you get met at the airport and escorted by a bilingual tour guide and driver to the various spots on the itinerary that you decide (and pay for) in advance. I went on a trip several years ago which included Hong Kong, Guangdong, a cruise on the Yangtze, Guilin, Beijing and Xian. I never had to worry about how to get somewhere or where to eat, plus the travel agent took care of all the necessary visas that were needed. I'd been to China before on my own, but if you want to see more sights with less hassle, its better to go with a prearranged itinerary...plus you also don't have to worry about cost because everythings been taken care of in advance.

The name of the travel agent I used was Sino-American Tours, see link below for contact info. Have a great trip!

i don't want to tell you what to do but you might want to check what the temperatures are in july.........compare them to phoenix, az. and if you don't have to drive, don't. the cities are worse than anything you've ever seen. my suggestion is to join a travel group. let someone else do the driving. the fall is a much milder time to see china.
