when I go under tools and internet options, hotmail and outlook express are the only options...any ideas?

On your browser go to "tools" then "internet options" then "programs". About the 2nd or 3rd column down it shows Outlook Express. Click on the arrow and highlight "Yahoo email" and that will set it as default. Be sure you click on "apply" before you leave.

Go to settings in Yahoo Mail and select to make it your default mail client. If that don't work, go to control panels and click on program accesses and defaults and select other and then go to the mail area and select Yahoo Mail. It's also a good idear before you do all this to download the latest Yahoo Messenger with Voice because that program installs you a link to Yahoo Mail on your desktop and helps register it with your computer.
