ive been with this person for 2 and a half years now. They asked once without a ring, i said no. They havent asked since. But they keep mentioning the future with me.

I think you have to be really explicit and honest about what you want or expect from a relationship. Some people think marriage is "no big deal" or "just a piece of paper". I don't agree with those statements. Marriage is important in our society and it makes a statement about a couple's level of committment. I told my man right from the beginning "I will not date you perpetually"! Good luck to you.

no its not a bad thing. some people have a special bonding without the need for engagement/marriage. most girls generally want to get married (i know i do). for me it marks my seal of my love for my bf, although he knows i do love him. i got engaged once b4 and broke it off because i saw myself 50 yrs down the track and saw myself being unhappy. this person wasn't the right one for me. the guy i am with now makes me extremely happy and i'd marry him in an instance. perhaps discuss why ur partner wants to get married and u r having doubts. its best to talk about these issues and not waste each others times. hope u guys work things out.

If marriage is something you want, you had better make sure it is something your partner wants. Otherwise you might end up spending 5 years or more with someone who is just passing the time.
