Isn't that wonderful ........we keep trying even in hopeless situations ! I think some people hope it is a 'contact' issue and they keep trying to make the contact. It's also a case of not taking NO for an answer ......... hahahahaha ..... It is me against the remote and I will be doggone if the remote gets the best of me . Hahahahahahaha.

Maybe because you're hoping there are still some life left in those batteries and 1) You have no idea where some fresh ones are or 2) You have to go buy some more and you don't really want to get out.

To squeeze the last ounce of electricity out of the battery...but after a while, the remote stops working because I smashed the switch too hard.

Because you are (hopelessly) trying to generate piezoelectricity. Also, getting off the couch and looking for batteries is a lot of work.
