By fundamental I mean people who believe there is only one God, that you should be saved, original sin etc.. There seems to be such a lot of people with these convictions here. No offense, I'm only curious.

Many people have mistaken hardcore Fundamentalism for mainstream Christianity in the US. The Fundamentalists are a minority, but they're a very shrill and noisy one, and they get a great deal of media attention. Same with this site. For every rational theological discussion, you'll get ten fanatics cutting and pasting endless King James Bible verses. They're just faster to jump in on a conversation, that's all. Don't worry. America's not a nation of frothing right-wing zealots...yet.

There's an interesting book called "Stealing Jesus" about the Fundamentalists co-opting Christianity, and what theological newcomers they are. It's certainly not the only book to make this point. Even the Puritans wouldn't recognize today's Fundmentalist dogma, much less the early Christians. For another interesting perspective, try reading Spong's "Rescuing the Bible From Fundamentalism".

Go to adherents. com for good statistical information on religions in the United States as a whole. From what I could read Christianity ranked in the highest percentile. Also go to polls here on yahoo answeres and poll the people, might be another way to compare.

They are not representative of the population in the US. I do not run into that many fundamentalists in my day to day life, even though I live in a very "Christian" area. Most are Christians, but most have way more tolerance than I have seen on this site. The fundamentalists simply have the louder voices.

I don't think they're representative, they just have enough money to get their patsies into office and make the rest of the world think we're the most god-fearing nation on earth, even more so than the Holy See.

Yes there are quite a lot on here but I dont think that they are representive of the US. There are quite a few of us athiests, agnostics, wiccans, muslims and a few satanics and then there is spock_darwin.

Say the word evolution and the fundamentalists will surface.
