- Gnostic Gospels: True, except the text in the Gospel of Mary Magdaline where is says, "Jesus kissed Mary on the lips" is actually, "Jesus kissed Mary on the (hole in parchment)". Brown took a liberty here. Also, there are several references in the Gnostic gospels as well as the bible itself that refer to Jesus "favoring" Mary Mag but they don't go into detail...leaving room for speculation.
- Priory of Sion: A real org., however every bit of information about links it to one of 3 men in the 1950s, and there's no information or reference of the org before that. It's thought to be a hoax.
- Myth of Jesus's Family: The book is correct that Mary Mag was not a prostitute. The bible makes absolutely no reference to that at all. As for the legend of Mary Mag fleeing to France, the only evidence that I know of is a reference in a 15th century book, and an old French myth. Supposedly she had a daughter named Sara, which in Hebrew means Princess. So, the conclusion could be reached that she was the child of Jesus, but its a bit of a stretch.
Da Vinci: Some agree 100% that Mary Mag is in the painting of the last supper. Several art historians claim that during the Rennesaunce (spelling) John was often painted feminine.
Constantine: This was about 80% true from my research. Yes, Constantine formed the Christian religon as it is now (more or less). History is a little fuzzy though as to how much involvement he had choosing which books to include in the bible (some say it was him alone, some say it was several people over several years). However, he DID remove all other religions claiming to follow another messiah, and shape the Christian religion the way he wanted it and make it mainstream. Whether that's following God's influence or a personal agenda, you decide.
Over all, as for the history and theory part of the book I'd say its about 50% fact, 40% legend-theory-assumption, and 10% false. Dan Brown even admits that, "the opinions in the book are conclusions drawn by the characters". He is himself a Christian.
Now...isn't that better than an angry Christian screaming "LIES" when they don't have a clue what they're talking about?

It's total fiction. The Priory of Scion was made up by a bored French student in the 1960s. The Rosicrucians were made up by a couple of bored English bourgeousis in the 16th century.
Even if it was true, it does not change the content of the Gospel. Rather, the pagan sex ceremony described in the book (think of what made Sophie not want to talk to her grandfather) hijacked some of the message to turn it into justification for worship of the Feminine Divine, which is not something you get from Scripture.
It's like with Catholics who leave the Church because they disagree with the veneration of Mary - whether you say a "Hail Mary" or not, the Eucharist is fully celebrated in the Catholic Church. Now if you disagree with the Eucharist, then it's no longer as good of a fit. In the same way, whether you believe Jesus was celibate or not, the salvific message remains the same.
Still a well-written book, shame so many (including Dan Brown) think its true.

Don't continue to read the book! It's a blasphemy! If you keep this book in your house, throw it away! The christian has nothing in comun with lies! It's better for you to read the Bible! You'll understand then and you'll find in Apocalypse that the wife of Christ is the Church and His wedding haven't begun yet! It is written in the Bible that the wedding of Christ with the Church is a "mystery", an undiscovered truth because it doesn't have space in ower limited minds. The mystery will be discovered by those who knows Jesus, in that day when He will kidnap the Church in Heaven.
For people who read this message and don't know who is the Church I tell them to read the Bible! The Church is all the people who received Christ as personal Savior and they have washed their clothes in His Holy Blood (through faith)!
You know what? Telling you this truth I don't want to "throw pearls in pig's mouth" (as Bible says), so if you can't believe what I'm talking about, keep your mouth close and don't laugh to make another sin in this day!

IT IS FICTION! The Da Vinci Code strips Jesus Christ from his divinity and contradicts what the Word of God, the Holy Bible, teach us. IF the Da Vinci Code was true, then Jesus would be simply just another prophet who was married. THIS IS WRONG! Jesus Christ came to redeem mankind and save them so they may have eternal life, and not eternal death. Jesus Christ died at the cross for our sins, and later, resurrected 3 days later, defeating Satan and his mission.

*u spelled it wrong...it's The DaVinci Code {by the way!!!}
*i don't personally think that it's true
*why should it matter if He was married and had a wife and kids...should we think any less of Him just beause of that???
*if anything, His having kids and a wife would {in my opinion} make him even MORE relevant in todays society in culture...knowing that He did all those God-ly things {healed people, saved lives, brought people back from the dead} and yet was still totally human just makes Him even better
*if you read the book/see the movie, make sure you know what you believe ahead of time and remember that the book IS a work of fiction!!!

The Davincci Code is a fictional story. Don't give it any thought. Unfortunately, the davincci code is the opposite of the passion and the conviction that the passion brought well....the davincci code will bring confusion. Like I said, don't give heed to it. Ask God.

as muslim , i believe that jesus was only a prohet not a god .
jewishs think that they ' ve crossed him but it 's not the truth
god " allah" takes him before crossing him as qur'an says . yhood was the one who had been crossed.
there is no maria magdelina as a wife or a lover because jesus has no wife ,he was taken to heaven at the age of 33-34 , this is the age of all who will go to the paradise .
muslims love jesus & his good mother maryam the daughter of omran . we , muslims, don't say that she was a bi like jews . we respect her too much because allah ordered us to respect her .there is a lot of good things about her & jesus in qur'an , our book .
finally , there ' s nothing called " Da Vinchi code" , simply , it ' s a story from illusion .

that's only one of thousands way some people try to fight religion - but this time it's comercial anough for you to read it (because you obviesly read only bestsellers).
the story is old as bible with some senzationalism added
there are tons of sectes with different stories like that, try to analize them all, and you'll go mad
you people are forgeting basic stuff about christianity and that's about being good, true, love ... and all that... what can these stories change about it - nothing of course
