I am Catholic, and that was what I was wondering about----why this is all about the Popes.

Don't worry about these websites. Most of them are untrue claims made by Protestants.

This controversy has been around ever since the Protestants created it. The origins of the name were originally created when Protestant Professor Andreas Helwig in 1612 tried to convert the title of the Pope into Roman numerals equivalent to 666. When he discovered that "Vicarius Fili Dei" (Vicar of the Son of God) fit the translation. He tried fifteen different language translations until he found this translation in Latin. It should be noted that this title has never been attributed to any Pope.

While it is true that some tiarras that have been "presented" to past Popes with inscriptions on them, NEVER has any tiarra been inscribed with the words "Vicarius Filii Dei". The closest inscription that I have been able to find has been the inscription found on a tiarra "presented" to Pius IX in 1871 in Belgium. The inscription reads

"IESV CHRISTI VICARIO INFALLIBILI
ORBIS SVPREMO IN TERRA RECTORI
REGVM ATQVE POPVLORVM PATRI

which translates to:

To the Infallible Vicar of Jesus Christ
To the Supreme Governor of the World on Earth
To the Father of Nations and Kings

You know, you can do a lot of things with letters and numbers. You can make them mean whatever you want. I didn't check the way they counted. It might be true.

The truth is, Jean Paul II is DEAD! He died last year. So I really don't see why you're freaking out!!!

Anyway, 666 is nothing. It's just a number attributed to the devil. I live in London, and right now, it's 07/06/06!!! Nothing special happened. Actually, I had a good day! Chill out. There are many things to be afraid of in this world, but certainly not the return of the anti-christ!

Don't believe in that bunk. If you search long and hard enough, you can find names that will add up to 666 no matter what. I am sure that you can find Protestant leaders' whose Latin name would also add up to 666, if you look hard enough. The whole thing is just stupid.

Revelations probably meant Emperor Nero or someone like that who was living at the time of the author. It was written in this code form so that the Roman government would not find out that it was a text against them.

I honestly don't understand what it is you're worried about.

Even if there was something satanic or whatever about the number 666, it really has nothing to do with the date 06/06/2006.

I was watching the news the other day and there was this pregnant woman on whos baby was due sometime around the 6th, but she induced labor early so her baby "wouldn't be born on that day". That is SO stupid.

That is crap, plain and simple.

Try using his full papal name and you will see it doesn't work.

Ioanes Pavlus, II P.P. (secvndo isn't used since this is the equivalent of Jr. it is just recorded as "II" not "the second" as the word secundo indicates. Secundo indicates the next in a list, not the next in line).

And honestly, using Latin to count the "number of the beast" is rediculous. The Bible doesn't say anything about a specific language that is to be used. It could (though nothing to back it up) be Aramaic, or - here is a shocker - it could be the language of God (which no man knows).

Stuff like this web site really ticks me off. The late JPII was a great man who did many things for all people, not just the Catholics. He would NEVER approve of a Catholic doing something like this to a Protestant church leader. Sort of makes you wonder who is the anti-Christ after all.

My opinion is that he/she could be right. I first heard about the Pope's title about 15 years ago. So it's not a new concept at all.
Do your research. Read what the Bible says about the antichrist and compare it to the pope/the catholic church. Look around online and you'll find plenty more about this! Youll probably even find a list of all the things that DO seem to make the catholic church the antichrist. It's worth reading. At this point, I know there are plenty of wonderful Christians in the catholic church..........I just think they're mislead, and at some point God will call them out.

That site has over 11,000 pages of facts exposing the Popes in Rome. Many people claim the 666 can be used on all sorts of names, which is 100% true. But Christian prophecy states 100% of ALL the prophecies of Antichrist must be fulfilled in ONE entity. So.. those claims that 666 is also used for "Ronald Reagan" or "Microsoft Windows" or even "Barack Obama" may work.. BUT, none of these people or companies also fulfill all the other prophecies. And there are hundreds of them and ALL OF THEM (including the 666) were in fact fulfilled by the Popes of Rome.

The 666 issue wasn't supposed to be translated into Latin. S. John the Divine, in anger, utilized his Hebrew (which, like Latin, has numbers corresponding to letters), and defamed a Roman governer, ceaser, or something like that, using 666 to stand for the man's name.

That's something even a Catholic Priest will tell you.

They have good resources and I was always worried about the Vicar thing. But I'm more used too the pope being the false prophet than the Antichrist. You're probably just worried because Catholic I'm guessing?

No. Crazy coincidences and plain old stretching the truth. I mean, come on:

"If you take out all the letters that aren't Roman numerals, and then rearrange the remaining letters, you can make the word Satan!"

Yeah. That sure sounds like undeniable proof that the Pope is the Antichrist.
