As far a telephone directories are concerned, I don't think I would call it truly alphabetical because of the way spaces are treated. For example, in my local directory, this is the order of some entries (with several intervening entries left out):
A Storage Place
ABC Store
A G Edwards & Sons
AAA Roof Inspections
You can see this is a totally inconsistent ordering.
However, I don't know what the official name of this ordering is.

The answer is D.
B and C is not a way to order listings.
Most directories are to look up nominal information used in identifying and locating something. Most directories reflect "current" information at the time of its publication. So it is safe to eliminate A as an answer.

depends on what kind of a directory your talking about ...
but like a phone directory is Alphabetical ... and most others i would think are too...
but if your talking about some other kind of directory, i could be wrong
