I agree with the other answers out there. However, there's a misconception out in the world that drinking a lot of water will magically make you weigh less.
It certainly will help in your diet plan, but it is not a cure all. It will certainly make you feel fuller and you'll burn some calories processing the water. However, I read that you'll burn a whopping 60 calories a day extra if you drink a 2 liter bottle of water every day. That's 4 pounds in a whole year (excluding exercise to and from the bathroom). Probably not the goal you were shooting for.
Your best bet to weigh less is exercise and healthy eating. There's no magic method or pill. Use a web site such as http://www.fitday.com to determine how many calories you need to eat and burn throughout the day. It's free and they don't spam. Check out magazines like Men's Fitness, Men's Health, Shape and Fitness to learn about exercise routines and healthy eating tips.
The bottom line is: educate yourself about your body and what goes into it. Practice what you learn and the weight loss will follow.
Good luck.

Drinking too much water, especially in a short period of time, can dilute your electrolytes. Dangerously low electrolyte concentrate can cause death. Drink moderate volumes of water throughout the day not to exceed a gallon. Most sedentary people consume between 1/2 and 3/4 gallon a day. The more active you are and the more you sweat the more water you will need.
If you drink a lot of pop you stand to lose a few pounds by replacing it with water. Water alone will not help you lose weight.
