YES! you need to use a heat protector such as Redken Satin Wear...i have curly hair and use it everytime i blowdry or flatiron....the heat is really damaging to hair less the protector.

Mine is wavy too. I don't usually wear anything to make it straighter, just the iron or blow dryer and big round brush, but there is stuff out there for that that you can apply prior to using the iron. I'd say you probably don't need it either unless your hair was really super curly. If you've got a good straightening iron that should be enough. I find the stuff you have to put on leaves your hair stiff and hard as if it were dry.

my hair is the same way. i dry it with a claw type brush so that i can hold it straight while drying it. i then use a flat iron.

sometimes i just let it dry wavy, and then flat iron it section by section. this, however, take at least 25 minutes in itsself.

use sum protective oil or serum but dont overuse cuz den ull look like a greaser lol
